Challenge Widget UI UX Tracking-Submissions

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

In the current WorldEmber Challenge, articles can be submitted for consideration in special categories. Authors are restricted to only one submission per category and only up to 10 submissions overall. The consequence of going over either limit is disqualification. However, unlike with other challenges with single entry limits, the UI box on the editing screen for an article where the submission button is gives no warning to the effect that a limit has been reached. Without specific tags or other techniques - I use asterisks on the list on my progress report page - there's no clear-cut way to keep track of which articles have been submitted or how many have been submitted. Thus, it's possible to accidentally cross a limit without any intent to do so.

How does this feature request address the current situation?

Adding some kind of UI box that appears in the world dashboard that shows which articles are currently under submission to a challenge would be helpful in planning out submissions and preventing accidental over-submissions. A widget that shows the same information would be a useful addition to progress report and compilation articles.

What are other uses for this feature request?

A widget to this effect that can be embedded in an article, author profile, or community signature would also be useful for bringing attention to submissions without having to manually update people on what we've been up to during a given challenge. A UI box to this effect would also be useful to look at next to other metrics like the word goal and historical graphs when trying to track one's efforts over time.

The Team's Response

This will not be implemented as part of the dashboard but we will be updating the personal page for each competition to include in which category an article was submitted.

I agree with most of the suggestions that think it's best to have this information somehow embedded into your WorldEmber contest stats page instead of having a separate UI box. God bless and thanks for suggesting!

Honestly, enhancing your personal WorldEmber tracking page with a 'submitted for special category' message next to an article, and maybe the option to filter on those, would be rather nice. I do note that it would only matter for WorldEmber, as SummerCamp already has its own page where you can clearly track your prompts, while other challenges and competitions are 1-entry only so easy enough to track.

would be nice but I don't believe it's needed

It would be nice, but whether it is worth the effort for developers compared to other changes affecting world building outside competition time, I kind of doubt. Wouldn't object to having a display like this though if it could be done reasonably simply and quickly.

There are so many tools to keep track of a list of things you have submitted. I don't really think its worth investing time into this.

The main page of an event should totally tell you at the very top how many submissions you have and which ones they are.   I disagree with cluttering the dashboard, but maybe the event page doesn't have the necessary services injected, in which case the dashboard is fine too.   The widget I feel is a bit unneccessary, my vote does not extend to that.

I think this would be very helpful and would keep someone like me from having way too many pieces of paper flying around my desk to keep track of challenges.
