bird dragon bat wing wingspan species-template

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

The Species template currently has sidebar fields for height, weight, and length, but not wingspan, which is adequate for ground-bound creatures, but not so much for flying ones.   Personally, I ran into it with birds. The bird in question stands 10 cm tall, is 25 cm long from beak to tail, and has a wingspan up to 30 cm. But there's no field for wingspan, only height and length.

How does this feature request address the current situation?

The addition of this one field would make the species template more adaptable to flying species.

The Team's Response

I know that the key value technique was mentioned but I honestly believe that is a matter of the LENGTH value. Wingspan is very specific to only creatures with wings Having said that it is quite a common property so I will accept it with low priority due to easiness of implementation even if the votes were low.

I tend to put this under "Length" with a (wingspan) note in brackets, but I agree it'd be great to have a discrete category for it.

I think it's a good idea. I wouldn't have thought to consider wingspan if this suggestion hadn't come up, which is why it would be useful to have the field added rather than just an instruction of how it could be formatted manually.

I relate to this. Trying to make a species with wings but having no field for wingspan :[ annoying

I understand this can be done with
    KEY
    VALUE
, but adding a field would make it easier for people. Not everyone is very tech savvy (even if this is a simple thing)

I'd love to have this, as right now I have to manually add it in and that always makes me nervous that the formatting is going to be inconsistent across different winged species.

Since this would be useful for a lot of usecases, even if still outnumbered by the amount where it wouldn't matter, I think this would be a nice addition.

Good stars, I need this so badly. This would be useful for more than just birds - dragons, angels, demons, half-breeds, various winged humanoid species, the list just goes on and on. I have a lot of original species that have wings, and this prompt would save me grief.

    You can use
::-- in the sidebar section like this: --Wingspan
    30cm
to have it appear exactly the same as the other opitions like height, weight etc...   This keeps the ambiguity of promts applying to every species and doesn't restrict it to a certain type of being.
