What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?
The way images are inserted/added into articles is confusing and difficult, especially for the average user with little computer experience. Getting image IDs can be confusing, especially with self-created images.How does this feature request address the situation?
An alternative to the ID photo method would be some sort of file upload method, or a way to paste the images in. The file upload thing would be best.What are other uses for this feature request?

As ano19920 astutely mentioned, If you rename your files after uploading them, you can easily find them when you type the "[" symbol and then begin to spell the name of the photo. But I also agree that a directly-to-article option would be nice, too. :) The process is very straight forwardThe I do not have the image already way
1. Use the + button then the the blue mirror to upload any image 2. Click "Save image" 3. Copy paste the image tagThe image is already here way

on 2021-10-22 00:35I like the way it works now and particularly the way the ID is the significant key, allowing for images to be replaced with better ones without a need to revisit the places they have been used. This is powerful and I wouldn't want any alternative "simpler" system to disrupt this capability. It's easy to search by image name to put them at the head of articles. That said, I have no objection to an alternative "in place" loading mechanism but not if it disrupts what we already have.
