Splitting the “military action” category into big (war) and small (battle/skirmish)

Military_Action
I am currently compiling a timeline for a game universe which contain many wars and battles over a period of 300 years. Since war are often accumulation of battles, I’d like to be able to differentiate between a war (like WW2) and some of the key battles that happened there (like Pearl Harbor and Midway).     Thus it should be easier to see at a first glance the difference between a war and a battle/skirmish… right now both are under “military action” and can become confusing to read as to know which one is which.   By splitting the "military Action" into two category (Major and Minor or big and small) should help in making the distinction clearer.

I think this is necessary. Simply choosing an appropriate name that describes the event should be enough to distinguish between large scale and small scale events. Avoiding throwing salt over your shoulder and all the major effort of a WEDDINGs are both types Traditions, but definitely don't each need their own template.

This sounds like an entirely reasonable request.

as someone who's working on a world that was previously ravaged by war i think this would be very useful

I see where you're coming from, but I'd like to point out that you could make new subcategories under e.g. a category named "Military Actions" that would then be e.g. "Wars" and "Battles & Skirmishes"

I would go a bit further with this concept. There are Wars, Campaigns, Battles, and Skirmishes. There should also be a scale for political events such as "Incidents", "treaties", "noble events" and other categories beyond "Foundings."   I had a similar desire to "layer" my events instead of just being one War.

As someone who uses World Anvil to establish timelines, characters, factions and significant events, this would be a huge help and a way to establish the importance to these sort of events.   As some small skirmishes can have era defining consequences, while some wars can have mild effects and can often be pointless.   So having a way to point out the level of conflict while including ''Era Defining'' or Insignificant, helps a big deal in emphasising it's true effect on The Narrative History.

This would be a nice quality of life change, but it isn't particularly necessary or essential so I can see why it might not happen.
