navigation-tab secrets genetic-ancestors
What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?
Some of text used in navigation tabs at the bottom of articles is either contradictory or a very obvious lie.
For species with multiple genetic ancestors, it says, "This species has multiple parents, only the first is displayed below" and then immediately after says, "
All parents: [insert only one parent here]"
For secrets, if you open a secrets tab on an article where you do not have access to said secret, it will read, "This article has no secrets." It's easy to notice this isn't the case though because articles that don't have secrets
do not have a secrets tab. I like pulling a fast one on my players/readers as much as the next guy, but I don't think this fools anyone for very long.
How does this feature request address the current situation?
For genetic ancestors: If it's not possible to list more than one parent in the first place, I think it would be best to just avoid any potential confusion and keep the first line where it mentions there are multiple parents, but get rid of the "All parents:" line, at least until the tabs are upgraded and actually able to list
all parents.
For secrets: I think there are two ways you could approach this, depending on if you want to keep secrets
secret or not.
- Simply rewording with something to the effect of, "You do not have access to this article's secrets." Viewers will know there are secrets, but at least it won't look like we're trying to fool them.
- Keeping the wording the same, but having the secrets tab be visible by default on all articles. This way, it's impossible for the viewer to know if an article truly doesn't have any secrets, or if it does but they just don't have access to them.
I'm personally more fond of the latter, but do appreciate that the former is probably a quicker and easier fix on the backend of things; I think either would be satisfactory.
