New fields for character accent and voice quality

accent voice voice-quality character article

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

As someone who enjoys voicing many NPCs when GM'ing, it can be hard to keep track of the voices and accents that I've chosen for the different NPCs. It would be great to be able to note down that a character has a "High-pitched, almost Dobby-ish" voice quality and speaks with a "Southern Gentleman" accent. As far as I can tell, there is currently no space dedicated to either voice quality or accent.

How does this feature request address the current situation?

Adding two new fields for characters, perhaps under Presentation, for accent and voice quality.

What are other uses for this feature request?

I cannot think of any additional uses.

For consideration, the three fields that I use are PITCH, PACE, and VOLUME. I happen to use numbers for these (negative are low/slow; positive are high/fast), but if we did want more fields than the larger, generic, speech box; I would suggest these three as a starting point.

While the prompt does already exist, as mentioned by others, I can see that it might be frustrating to have to scroll down as far as the Speech prompt appears in the body of the article, especially if you're trying to keep your game running smoothly. Maybe it might be useful to have a "voice" prompt (or similar) that displays in the sidebar for ease-of-access while GMing in addition to the already present Speech prompt?

As amelianite said, this is literally already a prompt in the character template within the social tab. Perhaps have a read through it and all the ideas suggested on the template page.

In the character template, under the "show template specific prompts and connections," you can click on the "social" tab. Scroll all the way to the bottom and you'll find the "speech" prompt box, which clearly states: "Tone of voice, Pitch, ACCENT, DIALECT, Impediments, Catch phrases, Common Phrases, Compliments, Insults, Greetings, Farewell, Swearing, Metaphors."

Leave an option to also upload a sample of your voice using the accent to refresh your memory when needed.
