5th Piece of the Chronicon

5th Piece of the Chronicon

Wondrous Item

Legendary Requires Attunement by a Creature with a Wisdom or Intelligence Score of 20 or Higher

Benefits

The artifact has 20 charges, and regains 1d4 charges daily at zenith. Once attuned to this shard, the owner gains the following abilities/properties:
Spell Replication: The wielder can cast any spell of 8th level or lower using a number of charges equal to the level casted
Knowledge of Mechanus: The wielder increases their Wisdom or Intelligence by 2, to a maximum of 30
Protection of Balance: The wielder can cast the unique spell "Planar Protection" using 2 charges
Guidance of Law : If an evil or good creature targets the wielder or an allied creature with a spell or spell-like ability, as a reaction the wielder may either impose disadvantage on the spell attack roll, or gain advantage on the associated saving throw. This ability costs 4 charges
Wrath of the Arcane: If the wielder has the ability to cast spells, as a reaction they can use 4 charges to maximize the damage of a spell cast. A maximized spell deals the highest amount of damage or healing possible. (I.E: a fireball casted at 3rd level deals 8d6 fire damage, and thus when maximized would deal 48 total damage.)

Drawbacks

Trixter's Judgement: If the wielder uses this artifact to shift the balance of power in the multiverse (I.e Slay a Solar for evil purposes or alter reality on a grand scale), Trixter will force them to make a Wisdom or Intelligence saving throw. The DC starts at 20, and continues to climb for each ill decision performed. On a failure, the Chronicon becomes unattuned to the weilder and vanishes, only to reappear in a random location in the multiverse, determined by the DM.

Planar Adaptation

Casting Time: 1 action
Components: Verbal

Planar adaptation grants you immunity to the harmful environmental effects of a particular plane of existence, including such hazards as toxicity, extreme temperatures, and lack of air. Planar adaptation has no effect when cast upon your native plane.

Desciption

What you see before you is an outer edge and corner of what may have once been a cube of unknown size. Attached to the corner of the shell is a mesmerizing and extremely complex collection of clockwork and gears, constantly moving and shifting with a million tiny clicks and shifts. Runes of all kinds, all of which are Mechanus in origin, are carved into the metal, on ever gear and part. housed in several segments of this piece and attached to this clockwork are minuscule spheres of constantly changing light and frequency. Power radiates continuously from this peice which seems to fill those that touch, almost like your holding a piece of just barely hot-enough metal. As you focus on this shard of a device, a mechanical and very logistic voice enters your head: "Activation in progress, scanning individual".

History:

The Chronicon is an extremely powerful artifact that was created in the heart of Mechanus, the plane of law. It was designed to right any wrong, to fix any mistake, and to bring balance to the multiverse should good or evil alter the scales. It has traveled from many planes, and was used by many mortals and immortals alike. Most gods fear its use, because of its potential for total destruction. It has traveled from world to world on the material plane, not just Faerun, and was once used to banish a being that existed beyond the laws of the multiverse. Yet doing so completely separated the artifact into multiple pieces, each of which were scattered throughout the multiverse. Some worlds received these pieces as comets that fell from the heavens. Others received it as omens from some unknown source (or at least it was believed).

Personality: (Trixter)

Due to its immense power, the Lawful beings of Mechanus knew that if this artifact fell into the wrong hands, there would be nothing that could stop them from rewriting all of the multiverse. So, they implemented a being known as Trixter, one that could alter or change the minds of its user. It is a very straight-forward being, having no real emotion behind it’s intellect. The being has inherent knowledge of a vast amount of history ranging from planes to worlds of the material plane, and can recall most of what is asked of it.
