The Ruby King

(a.k.a. Rubin)

Knightmare Kings and Queens come in many different forms. All of them, with the exception of the first, are former Dream Walkers who got trapped by the Knightmares too long. Eventually, their bodies in the Waking World died, and they transformed into Knightmares themselves. When a King or Queen is defeated, a Knightmare Dream Walker ascends to take over the ranks of Knightmares left behind. The Ruby King is the current iteration of Knightmare Royalty, so named because of the red, crystalline casing in which he traps Dream Walkers. Ruby is the Ninth Knightmare Royal, and because of this, he believes himself to be the one to finally make it out of Zithara and into the real world. According to the Prophecy of Old, the Dream Knight will either be the savior of the Waking World... or its downfall. Ruby took the Prophecy to mean that Nine is the number of completion, which makes it his destiny to take control of our world. He fanatically maintains that the Dream Knight myth is real. He flips between his belief that Remy is the Dream Knight and he himself is the legendary figure.

Physical Description

Apparel & Accessories

Ruby is covered head to foot in deep, crimson red armor. The holes in his helmet for breathing and seeing are shrouded in unnatural darkness so that nothing of the face beneath the armor is visible. The symbol of the Awen is engraved on the chest of his breastplate and stitched on both sides of the cloth hanging around his legs like a coat of arms.

Blooddrinker - The blood-red greatsword wielded by the Ruby Knightmare King. Blooddrinker has the ability, when wielded by Ruby, to transform into any weapon the Knightmare can imagine. Hollow Gauntlets of Awen

Personal history

Once a heroic and powerful Dream Walker, Ruby found himself trapped in Zithara. In the Waking World, he was groomed for royalty, told from an early age that he was destined for greatness. He discovered his ability to Dream Walk, and his feeling of greatness intensified exponentially. By the time he was 13, Ruby could have been diagnosed as an obsessive narcissist if such a diagnosis were possible at such a young age. He spent more and more time Dream Walking. When his body died during sleep in the Waking World, he found he couldn't leave Zithara and "move on." Time passed; Ruby didn't know how long it had been since he left the Waking World for good. Resentment and bitterness grew deeper and more profound until, eventually, it overtook what little humanity he had left. He devolved into a full Knightmare, and the evil energies of his newfound monstrosity exacerbated the mental problems of narcissism and delusions of grandeur. Ruby overthrew the previous Knightmare Royal to become the Knightmare King. From then on, he spent every moment searching for a way back into the Waking World. Cassandra van DeVenter caught his attention when she was a child. He convinced himself that he could use her latent Dream Walker abilities to increase his own power and break the veil between worlds. He encased her in a red, crystalline cage. But a young Remiel Brouillard stumbled into Zithara and rescued her. From that moment on, Ruby hyperfocused on Remy, believing him to be the Dream Knight, usurping the role that should have, in his mind, been rightfully his.
