34 - Down in the Trench

General Summary

After some confused directions, the kuo toa points the party towards the city marketplace and hands them a rudimentary map for navigation. Promising to return in a few hours, they leave Ylva and Isgrid to learn from the Kuo Toa and travel northwards towards a massive stone bowl-shaped plaza, decorated in multicolored coral reefs with shops and stalls snugly fit between them. They begin spending the small fortune they’ve collected, meeting a number of different shopkeepers. All the while, Gemini experiences pings of emotion and wayward musings from the seafolk around her, most of which involuntary. At the Steel Hull, the party attempt to magically suggest the triton shopkeeper and almost draw his ire. They locate a purple tarped stall run by the familiar face of a Mr. Langdon. With a request for scrying, they determine that the Wayfarers Camp outside Embrefal is entirely vacated. Before they leave, Mr. Langdon suggests they visit the opera house at the eastern side of town, to the particular interest of Kalani. They take his suggestion and depart eastwards.   The four, newly equipped with weapons, armor and other magical tools, arrive at the Starshell Theatre and pay for four tickets to see Doria, Muse of the Eastern Sea. The party enter to the sounds of a expertly-played mandolin, its every note resonating through the waters with an ethereal, heavenly sound. Kalani recognizes it as a variation of the lullaby he recalls from his own childhood, as well as the song played by Doss on his last visit to the shared mountain.   The show concludes immediately after, and Kalani takes his opportunity to speak to the muse. Doria gratefully accepts his compliments and says she was taught the song by her deceased father. Kalani asks her if she recognizes the name Isabelle, but she knows no one by that name, save for a mention in a different song her father used to sing. Being pulled away by other fans and benefactors, she agrees to meet with the party backstage once the theatre is cleared out.
