11 - King of Stone
General Summary
The party travel another day's time to arrive at the harbors of Grandfin once more. The sun sets upon a quieter marketplace than usual - a number of shops are closed or retired for the evening. They move quickly towards the palace, where a gathering of guards are huddled up in front of the building. One recognizes the party and hurriedly tells them of Koha's orders to retreat and secure the city.
The party enter to find the suspended coffin surrounded by a golden barrier, with Koha desperately working to keep the chains anchored to the walls. Mender approaches and requests Koha to read the scroll; as she recites the runic letterings in Giant, a pulse of electricity fills Mender. The warforged grows three times larger, empowered with the might of a Storm Giant.
The chains snap and the coffin slams into the ground. Golden energy pulses through the floor, ripping apart the stonework of the pillars and statues nearby to coalesce the rubble in the air. The party make their preparations and work to shatter the barrier that separates them from Mender. Mender removes the unconscious body of Kohatu and Kalani and Gem'ini work to resuscitate him.
Finally, the Revenant takes form, molding the gatherings of stone into a towering body of rock and chains. The stone titan revenant engages with the party, its limbs separating to strike from many angles. A battle begins in the grand hall of the Grandfin castle. Koha and Mender take up the frontlines and hold the limbs back while the team rains spells and magic upon them. Kalani finds ample use of his Heat Metal spell, injuring the statue from within. While Gem does weather a number of blows, her Staff of Aquai bolsters her damage and resilience.
The body of the stone revenant is brought to earth by a giant-sized Mender, who grapples him and drags him to the ground. The Stone Titan is destroyed, and the Terra magic emanating from Kohatu is absorbed into Gem's necklace.
King Kohatu, now fully conscious, thanks the party for their efforts. He leads them to a separate room where they can rest. Kohatu tells the party of his history, as the builder of Grandfin and his life with his brother Awha during the Reshapening. He shares his limited knowledge of the warforged, creations designed within the first century post-Reshapening and their limited numbers at present. He rewards the party with gifts for their heroism - a lute from the famous musician Doss for Kalani, a durable shifting garment for Gem, a severed warforged arm for Mender, and a liquid-producing jug for Dhummk'd. The party is welcomed to stay in the castle for their time in Grandfin (and indefinitely, for some) and Mender is invited to tea in the following morning. A small bird flutters through the window and lands on Kalani's shoulder, informing him that Mr. Langdon received a message from his father. He departs into the evening.Rewards Granted
