07 - Galavanting in Grandfin
General Summary
The party finally arrives at Grandfin Harbor, the major city of the Bay of Kiwa. After exchanging Captain Grizzgaft and his bosuns for a pouch of gold, the party roams the city streets for their own personal needs. Dhumkk'd finds a manly armory to his liking, and is invited to a fight night in front of Chad's Foundry. Gem identifies the potions and buys seeds for spellcasting, and they both leave to grab lunch. Kalani and Mender sell their old armors and pirate loot. Kalani visits a seer's shop to send a message to his father, confirming he is still alive and on the way.
As the party reconvenes with the sisters, they remember that they should visit the ruler of Grandfin, a Paragon of Terra. With a bit of a show of talent at the gates, the flabbergasted guards take them into the elaborate premises of the Lamp Ward castle. The party is greeted by Koha, daughter of the ruling stone giant Kohatu and also a Terran Paragon. With the promise of confidentiality, Koha reveals her father suspended in the throne room by heavy chains and a wooden coffin. She says when two streaks of light rained from the sky to smite them both, her father Kohatu blocked them both, heavily damaging him. In an effort not to lose control, the ruler triggered his precautions and locked himself away from any stonework.
Koha tells the party she has sent emissaries across the world, in an effort to find a proper healer for this predicament. She only knows of two options; the arcanists of the Witch's Lacrosi, whom she refuses to trust, and Awha, storm giant ruler of Stormcrest and estranged brother of Kohatu. She fears something terrible may have happened to him as well, and for the sake of both cities asks the party to journey to Stormcrest. She offers two sets of Triton's Tongue that they may traverse underwater, and a stone to keep in contact. With a promise to Mender for her hand in marriage dutifully declined, Koha wishes the party safe travels as they return to the Meridian.
They meet the sisters in an upstairs room and disclose the mission. Isgrid confirms the voyage is only a day's travel, and an hour's swim downwards. Ylva points out that the Aquai marker on the compass globe has shifted away from Grandfin and towards Stormcrest, for reasons still unknown. Burdened with the fate of two major cities and the potential threat of a storm giant, the party decides to retire to sleep. Gem spends a few hours practicing Aquan with Ylva, and Dhumkk'd requests company for the evening, a water genasi employ of the Meridian.
