The Rhuman Empire (Rue-mán)

Pomegranate Empire

The name of Rhuman has gone far. From a small clan to have their home change its name to “Central” as the capital of the biggest empire of the Eastern Blue and have their language and particular accent and grammar be named “common”, the undisputed lingua franca. To be from the Dar’Chartan continent or the Avian Wastes is to be Rhumani.

Governing

The Heavenly Court

The Empress

At the top of the Rhuman empire sits the empress. She is the representative of all who live in the empire to the realm of the heavens. She is chosen by Tiamat, aeon of the elements and strongest of the divine beasts. It is for Tiamats protection and blessings she is known as The Imperial Engine. The empress has direct access to all the powers of Tiamat and the mandate to rule and make decrees of the highest order.

The Princess Pavilions

The empress is not chosen by random through the population, instead a court of twelve princesses make up the candidates for the seat of empress. The princesses are a group of girls chosen by the archons for their extremely strong aspects of draconian and/or sepharim. A candidate must also have proof of being able to get the blessings of aeons, be good at academics, be physically strong and beautiful. It is of the highest honour to have your daughter be chosen to be a princess at the princess pavilions where they are taught by the very best to be good rulers. A princess is also an important figure in that they advise the empress, partake in meetings with judges and archons, and perform ceremonial acts as the empress ambassadors. If a princess misbehaves or is unfit for their role the empress and the arch archon have the ability to take away their title and ban them from the princess pavilions.

Dar’Tia Bureaucracy

The heavenly court stands as the head of state and has the highest rank in the empire. The Dar’Tia bureaucracy is the name for the government which concretely rules as they deal with passing laws, policing, economics and the military. The name Dar’Tia roughly means “by” or “of” Tiamat” and uses the term bureaucracy to show that in this system there are no kings or nobles, only a pure system of rules, protocols and merit.

The Arch Arcon

At the very top of the Bureaucracy sits the Arch Archon. They work right by the side of the Empress and the highest rank of the military and juridical system. The Arch Arcon and the Empress work closely together and both live in the imperial palace in Central.

History

House of Rhuman Mythology

Legend says that the Rhuman klan began with a giant pomegranate floating down the Green river and was found by an old poor widow washing laundry. The pomegranate opened to reveal a child and hundreds of beautiful red seeds. The woman could feel the spirit of Gaia run through her, telling her that if she would plant each and every seed along the river they would grow to become a beautiful orchard and the child, feed by the fruit that gave her life, would gain the strength to create a dynasty that would last for generations fit to rule the world. The woman, old and weak, planted each seed with much care and gave all she had to take care of the girl given to her by Gaia. The girl grew up strong as did the trees of the river valley. She challenged the corrupt king of the land who had let his people starve and turn to poverty and with the peasantry behind her seized control of the land of the lush valleys. To honor her adoptive mother he took the pomegranate trees which had fed her and made her strong, cut them down, and built a castle for her family, making her mother the honorary leader of this new dynasty by his side. That is the mythical start to the house of Rhuman. A story that has been told for generations as the family still stands even after the shattering of Gaia and into the era of Zephyr.

Taking over Dar’Charta

Before the break of Gaia the Ruhman clan was a family ruling over a rich land. Valleys with rich soils and a long history of cultivating strong sepharim aspects, bright red wings have become synonymous with the core Rhuman family line, as well as academic and botany, the art of handling nature spirits and magic. It was in the Rhumani academy that ships that can fly with the power of heart trees were developed just half a century before Gaia broke into Zephyr.   This edge in both spirit magic, academics and technology together with most of the land under the clans control staying in tacts as the land broke off to become the Dar’Chartan sky continent meant that the Rhuman clan could go on to challenge the other houses and states that tried to make things work in this new environment. Rather than forcing other peoples to be like the Rhumani and become part of their growing empire they instead focused on economic gain and stability. As they traveled and explored this new world the Rhumani could offer a stable currency, banks, trade networks as well as trade laws enforced by officers. If you paid your taxes to the Rhuman empire you did not have to fear a larger war or further subjugation. The Rhumani could also offer the knowledge of working with nature spirits, technology like the solar sails, and the ways the divine beasts could be persuaded to act in your favour.   Years later the first summoner, a Rhumani canary, fished out new land from the abyss with her staff blessed by the aeons. Her name was Tiaten, servant of Tiamat, and changed the Rhumani empire into the system it is built on today.
