Reading Challenge Summer Camp 2023

Well Summer Camp 2023 is over now. It was my first Summer camp here on WorldAnvil. And on that note my first participation in any event here so far. I have to say at first I was a bit nervous at others being able to read my writing and see my world. However I decided to take the plunge and do my best. I got started a bit later on it and wished I had seen it earlier in July. And the end of the month brought life challenges that didn't allow me to put some more effort into getting articles in.

At the beginning I wanted to to get the platinum badge for 32 articles, but told myself I would be happy with just getting one, because it would still mean that I got content posted to my world. As it was came in with 20 articles and feel very accomplished for that. In the process got some favorites which felt very good. When I saw this challenge on here I just had to get on it as well. I was very excited to read other people's work, give them some feedback, and hopefully get some on my own work as well. It is really amazing to be a part of a community that is very supportive.

An Ancient City that is still Inhabited Today

I want to say I really like this article. Luminara really comes alive the way you describe it. And while there are several underwater cities out there I love the time dilation effect. And for it to be reverse of what most people use is really creative. I love that the city becomes a place for historians to literally watch as history unfolds around them. Fantastic job loved reading it!

Enjoyed reading about Skubak. I really like the focus on it being a place for pilgrims and a faithful city. I think it really sets it apart and gives it a larger than life feel. I think the pronunciation guide to the side was a very good choice. I referenced a number of times, actually saying it out loud to solidify it in my head. And at the end I like the tie in to what I assume is your main timeline. It gives some good background and where it is sitting in todays world.

I really enjoyed reading about Ravenhearst. I love the concept of having enough information to explain the city but just enough mystery surrounding it. It leaves much to be discovered and understood about the place. I also like that it has an innate magical quality to it that protects it as well as those that live there. A very cool base of operations for those going out from it. Well done!

A Job that takes its Practitioners to Remote or Faraway Places

https://www.worldanvil.com/w/teralt-wulvenfire/a/wayfinders-profession

I enjoyed reading about the Wayfinders a lot. I like their focus on exploration and helping others through dangerous places. I think also their specialty of being emissaries to new places is very unique and cool. It makes them like first contact scouts discovering civilizations or lost empires. I am a huge fan of exploring as a focus so these guys are really cool. I also like the addition of well known Wayfinders and what they did and how they eventually died. Gives some good background and maybe something to live up to. Well done!

https://www.worldanvil.com/w/creus-travakh/a/etoilean-rangers-profession

I thoroughly enjoyed reading about the Etoilean Rangers. I especially liked that they are not a promotion or set of ranks. They are a person who has been acknowledged for their skills and abilities. I think it was also very creative that since most men work in the city in the industry, many rangers are woman in today's world. The combination of them as explorers and as law enforcement is very interesting. It brings a bit of the old west marshals to a slightly more medieval setting. Great job love it very much!

Really liked the new take on the lead singer. The idea that they take energy and magic from their audience by performing is a very unique twist. A very cool concept that would have a lot of fun storytelling. Just imagine a rock and roll lead singer not just singing good lyrics, but lyrics that weave magic through it and keep the audience enthralled. Also the tag at the end that being a lead singer means going to the places where the crowd is, was perfect. They have to travel to all different places to not only make money but keep the magic going. Love it, very creative!

A Species with an Unusual Form of Communication

https://www.worldanvil.com/w/pronathea-theiket/a/psylark-species

First off loved the beginning conversation. I quite literally laughed out loud. Nice work there. The Psylark really intrigues me. Reminds me of the idea of a Strix and really like them. It is really interesting that sometimes after an encounter people don't stop hearing them and have some trouble. It gives a really cool background information to someone and a neat concept for why they don't remember parts of their history. I think besides the beginning my other favorite part of your article is at the end about the Psylark helping and mending. They don't help in a grand way answering unsolvable equations or universal questions. Instead they aid in the littler things and maybe simply tell someone what they need to hear. Well done.

https://www.worldanvil.com/w/crossed-realms-jdebro/a/sildros-species

I really enjoyed reading about the Sildros. Very creative little creature. I especially liked how you used the prompt. I can imagine a couple of them flapping their wings and certain colors strobing to show different communiques. A very creative concept and one that reminds me of like fireflies but much cooler. Also like the fact that they are tricksters like faeries in that regard. No need to protect the species because they are so hard to catch. Like a really cool thing and can only imagine the frustration someone would have when trying to get one and just keep getting water poured on them or something. Ha ha very nice job!

https://www.worldanvil.com/w/seiorheim-euno/a/obsidian-howlers-species

Well done. Really really like the Obsidian Howlers. I love how you came into the prompt with their howling being the communication. It is especially cool that all their sounds can't be heard and there are some ways they communicate that no one can perceive. I especially like that they use their surroundings to bounce their howls to communicate in long distances. That is a cool concept that brings the idea of a pack of them even more terrifying but really fun to describe. Well done on this really enjoyed reading it and learning about them. Thanks!

Goals for the Remainder of the Year

This has been a very enlightening experience for my first Summer Camp. I am excited to finish out the year with more article writing as my players help me generate more of my world.

1st Goal: I want to get my session reports up to date and updated to where we are in our game so my players, and I, can look back and remember past event or characters.

2nd Goal: Another goal of mine would be to reduce my staging area article header by half. Through the Summer camp I had many articles go in there as connection points to the articles I wrote. I would love to have those fleshed out and actually links to more information.

3rd Goal: I think my final goal would be to get more invovlved within the WorldAnvil community. I've seen the support and encouragement that there is around here. It really builds me up and gives me motivation to write more, and help others and ask others for help.

As I have said before this has been a great experience lately and one I really needed to jumpstart my world building here. And I think it may even be something I use for my novel ideas as well. A great way to organize material and a great group to bounce ideas and concepts off of. I want to help get my world off and running with people's help, and in response be a help to others coming here for the same thing that I came for. Happy writing everyone!

Not exactly a comment on this article, but I love your header image. The ancient Asian (Japanese?) city painting is beautiful.

Thank you very much. Yes Japanese in theme, made with MidJourney and it represents one of the larger cities in my world.
