Driller Academy of Artifice

Driller Academy of Artifice is a school located in the Capital city of Ryma in Zhen Gho. There students are taught the inner workings and casting of Automaktion. They learn from teachers of all races and backgrounds. Training and education include: spellcasting, metallurgy, theory crafting, automaton control, experimentation, and traveling the country on research endevours. The students who graduate usually go on to be very impressive adventureres, some even become top inventers within Ryma and elsewhere in Zhen Gho. Still other graduates take their work and apply it to pushing the boundary of technology and magic bringing new things to the country every day!

Structure

Board of Regents

At the top of the Academy's structure is the Board of Regents. They are a group of wealthy and influential individuals who have a financial and usually a personal stake in the school. They are able to pass rules and regulations concerning what is taught, what activities are available, options for graduates upon completion, the hiring process, and other general guidelines for the school as a whole. Their votes have to be majority for anything to happen and conversation is welcome from staff, students, as well as families of students.

Headmaster/mistress

After the Board of Regents comes the Headmaster/mistress. They are responsible for the daily well being of the school and all those within. They regularly meet with the Board of Regents to make sure that the Academy is following all rules within the guidebook. Those in this position will regularly communicate with teachers about courses, talking with parents about admittance into the school, and be the face of the school out and abroad as they travel. They are also expected to gain funding for the school from other investors for special projects and the general fund.

Teachers

Below that is the teaching staff at Driller. There are teachers for all areas of Automaktion. Each specialize in a different aspect of the school of magic. There are several that work with students on different automaton creation. Several work on theory both at the base level and for advanced students as well. A number of teachers also work with students about metallurgy and combing that with their magical ability. Their primary responsibility is to educate the students in a safe way, and to have a full understanding of Automaktion. They answer to the Headmaster/mistress, and in some cases to the Board of Regents. Although mostly they deal with students and the parents of their students.

Support Staff

Past that there is a support staff of food service, cleaning, grounds keepers, stocking, registration, and financial services. They operate alongside the Headmaster/mistress to create the best atmosphere for the students to learn, and the teachers to instruct.

Culture

Core Beliefs

The core beliefs of the Academy is that of learning, ingenuity, and pushing the boundaries of technology and magic.
Learning
First and foremost Driller strives to teach its students about Automaktion and to be proficient, if not more, casters. Although the teachers will admit that they are learning right alongside their students. Being that the art is just over sixty years old there is still a lot unknown about Automaktion.
Ingenuity
The teachers at the Academy strive to empower their students to be ingenious, invent things and be clever about your solutions. Thinking inside the box is the closest thing to a failing grade a student can receive there.
Pushing Boundaries
Students are encouraged to push any boundary they have encountered about how magic and technology interact. Zhen Gho being the foremost on technology in Zennith is instilled in those who attend Driller to a very high degree. Teachers want to see the newest combination in their class every single day.

General Attitude

Those who attend Driller do see themselves as the foremost authorities on technology and the advancement of society. A good example is that the person who first start the idea of Fire Powder being used in weaponry was a graduate of Driller. This can get to their heads and more than a couple superiority complexes come out of the Academy along with degrees. Having access to the foremost technology of the world, being in Ryma with that wonder around them, and being taught the newest magic can make one quite prideful.

Public Agenda

The public agenda of Driller Academy is quite plain and very easily communicated. They strive to promote Automaktion as a school of magic through teaching those gifted in the arcane arts. The entire staff is dedicated to bringing Automaktion to the entire country of Zhen Gho, opening more schools to teach everywhere. Behind this quite lofty agenda is that of spreading their art to the rest of Zennith.

Zhen Gho has always sat on a bit of a high horse in all their success. Those that have been educated in Automaktion at Driller tend to show this even more. They want to show not only that they are the best in Zhen Gho, but also to the other nations. So far the technologies that have come from the Academy have pushed this agenda forward.

Assets

School Grounds

Driller Hall is the main building on the school grounds and where all the primary in-class sessions happen. It is where all new students study the basics of Automaktion. Any lecture based class, along with theory classes, usually take place here. Although for a class to remain there for the entirety of the school year is very rare. Afterall the whole point of studying magic is to learn to use it and you need other more open places for practice.

Forges

Metallurgy is an important skill for those who wish to master Automaktion. In order to imbue an automaton with magical energy and animate it you must first create it. While the more powerful practitioners of Automaktion can use magic to actually create and imbue automatons while you are learning you must craft them yourselves. In face many Automaktion casters still make their own creations as it brings you closer to your skill and allows for greater customization and ingenuity in making automatons. There are several forges available on the campus for those studying along with several teachers (mainly Dwarves) to instruct on the use and care of them.

Testing Fields

All magic can be dangerous, especially for those learning how to harness its power. This is also true of Automaktion, along with testing out the automatons that are created. So for this reason there are massive fields all over the academy, even a couple off campus, that are strictly enchanted, protected, and used for testing spells, casting large area spells, as well as seeing what automatons are capable of.

Magical and Mundane Resources

The campus boasts a significant storehouse of items needed for the creation and repair of automatons. Along with that there are gardens and other storage facilities that contain most any casting component needed for any spell. This allows for testing and working on spells rather than learning in theory because materials are not available.

Wealth of Ryma

Residing in the Capital city of Ryma has numerous benefits, especially within the financial portion. There is tuition for students to attend Driller and this brings in quite a bit of money for the Academy. Along with that the leading technological and magical minds reside in Ryma and are thrilled to see students at Driller and be successful afterwards. For this reason the school has many benefactors and investors so they can maintain the grounds and education they offer.

History

Driller was founded in 801 AF by Neonoth Machinebringer Driller. He was a goilath of great magical power, and a thinker. For that very reason he had basically invented the way in which Automaktion is cast to this day. After being banished from his tribe he traveled Zhen Gho learning more and more about this lost art of magic and. After around 40 years of travel and learning he settled down in Ryma and opened up Driller Academy of Artifice. He had been a goal of his to teach his findings and pave the way for others to advance the field and learn new things. With support from the people of Ryma the academy was, and continues to be, a success.
