Amarithian Royal Army Overview

Amarith’s royal military is a medium sized professional standing army. Their equipment is paid for by the kingdom, and they are well trained. They are focused mostly on alchemical weapons, everything from poisons used with injection weapons, to explosives, to more creative things like traps planted on a battlefield. In terms of troop assortment, they have a lot of archers, a decent amount of melee infantry, and a small amount of cavalry. They also have alchemical artillery, which is not completely unique, but is uncommon, and theirs is the best.   Amarith’s R&D division is working on incorporating alchemical mixtures in to the forging of weapons to strengthen them, and has made some progress. They are also working on a way to alchemically enhance their soldiers to make them stronger, faster, and more resistant to damage, but have found only limited success.

Melee Infantry

Amarith’s infantry wears gambesons, mail, brigandines, helms, gauntlets and leather boots. Their arms are injection spears with poison, kite shields, arming swords, and alchemical grenades, which are typically worn on a belt or bandolier. These grenades are typically explosives, things that leave a lasting effect on the battlefield aren’t typically carried by infantry.

Ranged Infantry

Amarith has three types of ranged troops; artillerists, alchemical artillerists, and sharpshooters.   Amarith’s regular archers wear gambesons, mail, partial helms, gloves, and leather boots. Their arms are crossbows, pavise shields, and arming swords. Their crossbow bolts typically have some type of poison applied to them.   Amarith’s artillerists have the same equipment as the archers, but have explosives and other alchemical mixtures on their bolts instead of typical arrowheads. These are similar to grenades, but are weaker and have much longer range. There is typically about one artillerist for every 3 regular archers.   Amarith’s sharpshooters are much more well-trained than regular infantry, and have crossbows that are more powerful, but are also more difficult to reload. They carry some bolts that are stronger versions of artillerists’ bolts, and they also have injection bolts. There are very few sharpshooters compared to the other types of ranged infantry, and they are often deployed separately from them.

Cavalry

Amarith’s cavalry wear gambesons, mail, brigandines, helms, gauntlets, front greaves, and shoes. Their horses wear mail barding. Their arms are cavalry swords, shields, and grenades, which are in a metal case attached to the horse’s saddle or barding.

Large Artillery

On the battlefield, Amarith uses ballistae, usually loaded with alchemical bolts that are similar to the ones carried by infantry artillerists. Ballistae are also occasionally loaded with bolts that cause more lasting effects on the battlefield, like pools of liquid or clouds of gas.   In a siege, catapults are used in addition to ballistae. These are sometimes loaded with conventional ammunition, and sometimes with various alchemical weapons. Alchemical weapons are sometimes explosives, sometimes liquids, and sometimes gases. Usually these will be physically debilitating or lethal, but sometimes more unconventional things are used, like hallucinogens or tranquilizers.

Knights

Amarith has many knights, who fight in infantry or cavalry, depending on their individual preference. Knights purchase their own equipment. They often wear a full plate harness, if they're wealthy enough, and use whatever arms they prefer. There are a few, but not many, instances of knights operating large artillery.
