Dragöhla

In the Mountains that divide the Kve's, the Dragöhla rites sees members of both neighbouring nations meet to appoint a new Glacier or Flame. It is a large feast, with competitions held to welcome the new link between their cultures.

History

No written records of its inception remain, but the Kve Shamans maintain it dates back to the end of the time of dragons. The dragonborn left as the only legacy of the true dragons, decided they must unite to continue the line of their former masters. To ensure that the link was never to be broken, their diplomatic relations would be cemented in ritual and law. However no one knows exactly what happened in the first Dragöhla, and the first written script detailing its execution came 350 years after its inception it has remained largely unchanged since then. However the allowance for the family to grieve the loss of the former identity is a new development which many elderly Dragonborn still see as disrespectful, they say for their kin to be chosen is an unparalleled honour and to grieve insults the Dragons themselves.

Execution

After 3 days of feasting and competitions, the new Glacier/Flame will be sworn in by the Royals of the two neighbours. As part of this ceremony they will discard their birth name and identity and will choose a name based on a distinctive characteristic of theirs that is considered fitting for a dragon. Examples being long fangs, distinctive scaling patterns etc. They must also assume gender neutral identity, to represent the monomorphic nature they believe of dragons. They then engage in ritual combat with the standing Glacier/Flame, they are to make an impressive display to show they are deserving. However the combat always ends with a truce and embrace of the two ambassadors.

Participants

King/Queen of the Kve's. The ascending dragonborn. A religious representative may be present at the request of the ascendant's family as some also combine the event into a funeral for their son/daughter.

Observance

Once an ambassador dies, arrangements will begin for the Dragöhla. This can take a long time, as all required parties need to return to the mountains and if there is an extensive army campaign currently engaged, this will need to return home. However as the world shifts further towards the idea of "armchair generals", often the Ambassadors are always with in a fortnight's distance.
