The Host

Written by Durzarina

He lives all alone in  Hythe Grathmere  No one knows anything about him- not anymore. The oldest living being in Almar, since it broke away from the Zelestorian mainland.   He was once a kind and gentle member of the Royal family, who was driven mad by living so close to the The Shadow Dominion.

Warning To All Who Approach Him.

The Host, so named since he had forgotten his birth name. When Almar broke away from the mainland, The Host was fighting his last against the elves in the Lower regions of the Hakkan Mountains. As he made the final blow to his enemy, The Host felt himself being whisked away- his consciousness fading till all he heard were voices.   The voices told him that he was chosen to guard the mountain. No human should get close to the gate- or should they fall upon a fate worse than death. As he returned to consciousness- The Host was facing the forever ominous Shadow Dominion. The small popping of coloured vapours taunted him, knowing that this was his life and his purpose now. A Guardian. A chosen victim of the chaos goddess Malum.   As the years went by, he slowly fell into a corrupted mindset. He learnt magics from the Shadows- a small negotiation to help him pass the time. The Host began to invite townsfolk from the village beneath the mountain, hoping to be able to make a friend or companion, but his fragile mind saw all of them as experiments more than potential friends and allies.

The Host- Broken.

After a few thousand years, his mind had broken and he was swallowed into the sickness that over took him, creating a feared demonic being that lacked any and all sympathetic emotions.   Using his magic, he tried to make the mountain look like his home in the Citia Of Dunwen, but alas it was merely illusion. Alone and fading further into the darkness, he began to torture those who dared to come and visit him
What makes these humans so special? Why were they targeted during the War? - Two of the many unanswered questions of The Host

The Making Of His Servants.

Mixing magics and sciences together was hard, especially since that kind of mastery belong to the Merfolk- This didn't stop The Host from trying to replicate it. He captured twin farm boys Laurence and Daniel Markanthus, and combined them into one person. A defect from this experiment was that they had to consume blood in order for them both to survive.   Markanthus, now calling themselves- Laundinai fell in love with a stubborn human farmer-turned-hunter Ser Leroy Markanthus. Furious that the twins would and could ever find love, The Host attacked Ser Leroy- almost killing him. Laundinai tried to protect Ser Leroy, their blood fell on his dying lips and Ser Leroy became an immortal being, just like Laundinai. - Much to the interest of The Host.
