Untold Tales of Childhood

Encased in worn, charcoal-grey leather, the book bears no title on its spine or cover. Only upon opening does the reader find the name inscribed in elegant, archaic script on the first brittle page "Untold Tales of Childhood". The parchment is yellowed and fragile, edges frayed as if touched by countless hands over centuries. The book provides no clues about its creator or origins. There is no foreword, or preface, only a collection of stories. Each story is a retelling of a well-known childhood story from many civilisations, but each one has been rewritten to follow a dark, twisted retelling.    Despite the unsettling content, there is no overt supernatural element within the book itself. Readers have reported feelings of unease, but these are attributed to the stories' stark departures from familiar narratives rather than any mystical properties. The book boldly asserts that these are the original versions of the tales, untarnished by the gloss of modernization. In the last pages of the book boldly asserts that these are the original versions of the tales, untarnished by the gloss of modernization. However there is no supporting evidence, references to historical manuscripts, storytellers, or cultural origins withing the book itself.
