The Myth of the Golden Grain

Summary

In the celestial realm of the The Feilds of Valor, where the god Strength reigns supreme, grows the fabled Golden Grain, wheat so pure and potent it can never take root in the mortal world. It is the sustenance of Godbourns and heroes, a secret kept within the divine plane.

Historical Basis

The myth of the Golden Grain began to weave its way into the hearts of mortals through Valturius, a godborn champion of Strength. Valturius was incarnated on the material plane to serve as Strength's champion and act as the embodiment of his patron’s might.   As Valturius performed feats of valor and displayed unrivalled prowess, whispers of his origin began to spread. People questioned how a mortal could possess such strength, such vitality. In response, Valerius shared the tale of the Golden Grain, a gift from his divine father, nourishing him in the endless fields of a realm far beyond their reach. He spoke of the Field of Valor, where warriors of the highest honour trained amidst the golden reeds, their strength renewed each dawn by the grain’s divine essence. He told them that while the Golden Grain could not exist in their world, the virtues it symbolized; discipline, courage, and honour, could be cultivated within each person.   The myth inspired the people of Mid-Realm, who began to hold the Golden Grain as a symbol of aspirational strength. They could not partake of the grain itself, but they could strive to embody its virtues.

Variations & Mutation

As the generations passed and the deeds of Valturius, the godborn champion, became the stuff of legend, the tale of the Golden Grain transformed the collective memory of the people of Eshaxia. The celestial origins of the grain, once clear and understood began to blur in the mists of time. The myth evolved, and the Golden Grain took on a new life in the hearts and minds of the people. It was no longer just a symbol of divine strength and virtue; it became a tangible hope, a dream that somewhere within the vast reaches of the Mid-Realm, the Golden Grain might truly exist.   Farmers began to whisper of a day when they might stumble upon a sheaf of wheat shining with an otherworldly luster. Adventurers set out on quests to find the fabled fields where this miraculous grain might grow. Alchemists and scholars poured over ancient texts, seeking clues that might lead them to the Golden Grain. The impossibility of its existence in the material plane did nothing to dampen the fervor of their belief. If anything, it only added to the allure, for the heart of humanity has always yearned for the miraculous, for the touch of the divine in the earthly realm.
