14th of Greenleaf, Ilara Thorne
Date: 14th of Greenleaf, Year 472
Patient: Ilara Thorne, Age 32
Observed by: Healer Marwyn Elspeth
Today, I witnessed a case that challenges the very understanding of life and death. Ilara Thorne, a woman of thirty-two summers, was brought to my care exhibiting symptoms of an unknown ailment. Initial observations noted a high fever, pallid complexion, and lethargy. Her eyes were distant, unfocused, and she spoke in whispers unintelligible to the ear.
As the hours waned, Ilara's condition deteriorated rapidly. Her breathing became shallow and irregular, each breath a laborious task. I observed the rise and fall of her chest slowing, the intervals between breaths lengthening ominously. Her pulse weakened, a faint flutter beneath cold, damp skin.
At the stroke of midnight, Ilara drew a final, fragile breath. Her chest ceased its movement, and the life seemed to fade from her visage. I whispered a quiet prayer, noting the time of passing, and prepared to perform the customary rites.
Moments after, an unsettling phenomenon occurred. Ilara's eyes, once closed in eternal rest, flickered open. They stared vacantly, devoid of the spark of life. Her limbs began to twitch, subtle at first—a finger curl, a slight shift of the hand. Then, with unnatural rigidity, her body moved, sitting upright on the cot.
