Grennidiers

The Grennidier unit is a squad of people in the military of Narzad who are specifically trained to fight ravaging animals. One or two squads may be sent out with little advanced notice to aid in protecting a settlement.
Note: Grenni is the goddess of hunting, protection & war, thus the name of the unit.

There are 12 people per squad.

Weaponry

Four members of the squad carry a longnet. Eight members carry a spear. Additionally, every member of the squad carries a short sword and a shield.

Tactics

Each squad has two pair of "netters." The netters attempt to catch or hinder the animal by entangling it in their shared Longnet. Once entangled, the spear bearers attempt to kill the beast. Each of the netters carries a net so if one net is damaged or in use, the other net is deployed.

Recruitment

When young, many Zaanri children want to grow up to be part of a Grennidier squad. The men and women in the squad are viewed as elite monster hunters. In actuality they don't seek out their prey, but usually report for battle once animals have attacked. As all children are given weapons training, learning to be netters is something that each set of Zaanri twins is familiar with, but it takes a lot of courage and co-ordination between the pair to excel wielding a longnet.
