The Last Watch: Songs of a Fallen Kingdom, Ch. 1

General Summary

Domokos encounters a mysterious purple-skinned tiefling solider with rusted armor and foreign speech in the snow-covered woods south of the ruined city; they don't have much time to make each other's acquaintance as Riven's pursuers shamble in from all sides--undead wights with death in their eye sockets. Domokos and Riven make it to a frozen river, which they attempt to cross while being harried by black-fletched arrows; unfortunately, Domokos is pulled off the cliff toward the ice by a grappling hook--but strangely disappears before making contact. Riven is soon joined by the rest of Domokos's original party, Hazel and Sig, who were also fleeing a group of wights from the west; while the party holds its own against the undead long enough to clear a path to a old tree lying across the ravine, the rest of the wight force arrive from the north and south, many of them instantly surrounding Riven and knocking them off the ledge. Suddenly, the world shifts and shimmers before everyone's eyes, and they Riven hits not ice, but a flowing river of blood. The snow and cold are gone, replaced by a humid late summer day with the smell of fire and ash on the wind, the wights transformed into the corpses of freshly slain men and women. As Domokos goes over the edge of the crimson waterfall, Riven follows suit, and the remainder of the party (intentionally or otherwise) joins them soon after, as they all sink deeper into this recollection of cataclysm.   Songs of Glory: Riven (+2), Domokos (+1), Hazel (+1), Sig (+1)
