The Battle on the Summit

General Summary

Songs will be sung for generations about Sebastian's, Bronwen's, Sig's, and Grunk's defeat of the Ancient White Dragon at the top of Icewind Spire.   Emerging from their trials in the Temple of Silvanus, they took a mere hour to rest and enjoy a hearty meal, courtesy of Grunk and a Scroll of Heroes Feast. As Pinepaw tapped on the hourglass to remind them that the final standing stone was minutes from crumbling, the heroes stepped through the portal to the top of the icy mountain peak.   The party wasted no time with conversation, immediately launching into a frontal assault, peppering the dragon with shots from the Tesseract Glove and Clarissa. It wasn't long at all before their allies came to their aid. The necromancers Embra and Amalika warped onto the scene, draining the dragon's strength and reducing its armor class. Two groups of druids landed on the mountain-side transforming quickly into ferocious polar bears. And lastly, with the dragon surprised and distracted, Sebastian took out his mysterious stone flute, and played a melody that echoed through the mountain tops. Smudge, responding to his call, crested the mountain to join them, and two platoons of haniwa clawed out of the frozen ground, forming a protective line in front of the party.   The battle continued ferociously, with Sebastian, Amalika, and Embra quickly falling unconscious under the frigidity of the dragon's bonechilling breath. Melee combat ensued between the druid polar bears, haniwa, and dragons, as they bit, hammered, and clawed at each other, rending flesh and smashing stone. All the while, Bronwen unloaded nearly all of her Tesseract shots at a distance for tremendous effect, while Sig and Grunk kited the dragon's attention at medium distance with their own attacks.   Until the dragon smashed one of the Haniwa platoons with its tail, crumbling them into Pebbles, and blew an icy breath blast directly at Grunk.   Grunk's legs were nearly frozen, and his consciousness fading. The druids standing by him were barely clinging to life. But the hero of the druids dug deep into meditations and spirit, finding the ability to redouble for one more attack (aka, rolling a NAT20 on his first death saving throw, coming back with 1HP). Grunk surged forward in the snow, swinging wildly with three unarmed strikes. The dragon casually knocked away his first strike, bleeding heavily from the effects of the other attacks. The second strike merely bounced off of the dragon's frozen scales, as it lowered its head to Grunk, opening its mouth to consume his body. The final strike however, blazed alight in powerful flame, and Grunk unleashed a fiery uppercut directly through the skull of the dragon.   As the dragon roared for a final time, both he and Grunk collapsed in the snow. But for Grunk, his allies, and the entirety of Last Rest, they had won the day, and defeated a world ending threat.   Songs of Glory: +5 for Sebastian, Bronwen, Sig, and Grunk.
