Like a Moth to a Flame, Pt. 3
General Summary
Somewhere in the Feywild, some time ago...
After a night of rest, Vyn, Matthias, Eliana and Pim set out through the Great Forest, following the guidance of one of the four runes Vyn received. They travel through a vibrant evergreen woodland that gradually transitions into a marsh. Pushing through thick mist, they reach a clearing amidst the bog. The rune paper glows brilliant with arcane energy, indicating that they have reached their destination.
Matthias gets fed up with The Child and shoves it under a log for a time out. The Child, extremely displeased by this treatment, wails at an ear splitting volume. Suddenly the world around them appears to revolve as what seemed to be the roots of the giant trees come to life, slithering and writhing, revealing the form of an ancient serpentine dragon woken from slumber.
It speaks with the party, and upon learning they intend to destroy the time-warping artifact held by the Mad Wizard, agrees to grant them a boon, but at the cost of death. An epic battle ensues. Eliana peppers the dragon with arrows. Pim pummels it with his fists. Vyn surrounds it in faerie fire and deals savage slashes to its eye with her glowing moonlit rapier. Matthias flows with the power of the changing seasons as he teleports into the maw of the beast, driving his blade through the roof of its mouth before dealing the finishing blow with a dual-bladed slash to the throat.
Upon its destruction, Ouroboros turns inside out, consuming itself in a bizarre reincarnation ritual. It emerges with its scales iridescent and gleaming white with lifeforce energy. Bowing to the victorious heroes, it grants them the boon it promised and produces one of its own scales. It assures them that its purpose will become clear when the time comes. The light around the great serpent fragments and it vanishes into the mist, but not before the energy of its resurrection restores life to the marsh, counteracting the necrotic wake of the dragon’s death.
