Like a Moth to a Flame, Pt. 2
General Summary
Somewhere in the Feywild, some time ago...
Stepping through the magical doorway, Vyn, Matthias, Eliana, and Pim find themselves in a dwelling built within the ancient tree. In front of them is an enormous green moth. It transforms into an elderly fey who introduces herself as Luna, Vyn’s great aunt. She shows Vyn the effects of their late grandfather Akal, left to her after his assassination. Within the chest containing his belongings, Vyn finds a journal written in ink infused with blood magic so only a direct descendant could read it. His writings tell of his time as an ambassador within the court of Falinor.
The journal also contains a letter addressed to Irie, Vyn’s mother. Akal tells her of his discovery of an artifact in the possession of a mad wizard - an item capable of rewriting a single moment in time. Knowing that there is someone after this information, Akal plans to unravel his own mind so none may learn what he has found. He begs his daughter to find and destroy this vestige, lest it be used for terrible purposes.
Vyn decides to take up this charge in their mother’s stead. Upon finishing the letter, they find it separates into four pieces, each containing a glowing rune. These will act as compasses, guiding them to take the necessary steps to find the mad wizard and the temporal artifact. Leaving with their party, Vyn sets out through the great forest.
Along the way they smell a sweet and inticing scent, and make a detour to discover its origin. In a meadow of tall grass brimming with wildflowers, they find a small bearded man crying. He introduces himself as Samuel. He is surrounded by bunches of picked flowers and says he cannot remember why he came here. Vyn notices a ring on the little man’s finger, and is able to deduce the man was collecting flowers for his spouse.
They help find the path back to Samuel’s cozy home. Vyn watches as Samuel is reunited with his husband Lor, who appears bedridden but extremely grateful to them for helping Samuel find his way home. Vyn leaves the elderly couple to enjoy their quiet retirement, but not before Samuel grants them a stunning blue rose that he found in the meadow. It smells of pure nostalgia and has the ability to put creatures to sleep.
The adventurers continue on, unsure of what lies ahead.
