Like a Moth to a Flame, Pt. 1

General Summary

On a late evening in the tavern, Matthias and Vyn are struggling in vain to stay awake while Eliana is unwillingly burdened with care of the Child. They are startled by the appearance of a strange messenger who delivers a scroll to Vyn. The scroll is a riddle, promising information regarding Vyn’s family. It seems to instruct them to follow the moth that has been flitting about the table. The adventurers follow this moth to a glade on the outskirts of the settlement and discover a fey crossing, a portal that transports them to the feywild.
They find themselves on a platform amidst the branches of an ancient tree, seemingly dead and covered in suppuration. Upon investigating, Vyn and Matthias discover that there is illusion magic hiding the true nature of the tree. They are set upon by a monstrous spider, but they manage to defeat the monster, Pim using his pectoral muscles to dominate it and Matthias dealing the final blow by slicing all of its appendages from its body.
As the spider expires, it transforms into a violet faerie dragon. The dragon appears friendly, and dispels the illusion magic fully so the party can now see a glowing green portal between the branches. They take the portal. Appearing on the other side, they find themselves in what seems to be a dwelling built inside an ancient tree. Beneath the stained glass window sits an enormous moth, waiting for them.
