A Soldier's Fate: Honorstrand

After the discovery of a broadsheet from the Deserters on the Ogre Gate at Last Rest, Barksdale enlisted Matthias and Riven to join him, with hopes of catching up to Robin and Elfriede at Shadowell to head down to Honorstrand on the Talon and meet with the deserters. Thus began a long journey with a lot of long-winded narration about the local geology of the region.
Having met with Robin and one of our newest heroes, Sig Powderpaw, in Shadowell, the party headed south, discussing what they hoped to learn when they reach Honorstrand. They reached Honorstrand without incident by crossing the landbridge as the tide went out, and made their way up to the imposing ancient fortress.
There they met with Captain-General of the Honorstrand Marines, Heddal Gorenson, who quickly ushered them up to the fortress' council room in order to discuss the news the refugees had brought from Falinor, and Heddal's own past experiences within the Reach. However, as Heddal expressed hopes that Robin would send news back to Falinor of some of the secrets he had to reveal about the final years of the war, they were rudely interrupted by a strange woman with an even stranger device. As she planted the device in the center of the room, Sig and Zorif (one of Heddal's people) fell unconscious. What plots have our heroes found themselves in the midst of?
