12.6 - Shadowfell, Snickersnack, Blackrazor
General Summary
Shloopurr, Eliana, Ami, and Curie are thrown from this world in the Shadowfell after Eliana tears the Blackrazor from the arcane stone at the heart of Darkstar Crater. Fleeing the shadows that assail them on the other side, they find refuge in a Cthonic lighthouse radiating a strangely benevolent radiance. There, they find a blade wreathed in light and mirth reciting strange poetry about Jubjub birds and tulgey woods, which warns Shloopurr as it takes it in hand to "Beware the Jabberwock, my son!" as a cursed, nightmarish dragon materializes from the shadows to attack them. Its grotesque gurgling paralyses all but Shloopurr in confusion, as the plasmoid hero takes to the ramparts to face off against the slithering foe, his vorpal blade going snicker-snack and a newfound whitehot fire burning through his veins and into his blade, leaving the Jabberwock dead in a single decapitating stroke.
Eliana drops her dark blade, which nearly turned on her friend Curie in the fight. And Ami...
Ami sees the blade lying on cold grey stones.
He sees the darkness it carries--he alone saw Eliana's eyes, the way they turned black like yarning portals to a cosmic abyss, saw the darkness start to claim her and nearly claim Curie mere seconds ago. He looks at his friends, at Shloopurr newly freed to a brighter future from his shadowy axe, Curie still shaken from the near-death experience, Eliana sobbing in apology.
He moves to grab the sword, carefully, his hands wrapped in cloth, before anyone can stop him. He has to get it away from his friends. He has to throw it back into the darkness where it belongs.
He touches the star-lit void of the Blackrazor. And it touches him.
Ami does two things before he dies.
He channels the last remnants of his druidic magic and essence into his oldest friend, Smudge, sending him beyond the reach of this darkness to somewhere warm and familiar and safe. And he turns to his new friends, to Curie and the rest, and says goodbye.
