12.28 - The Allocation of Funds

General Summary

The Council of Last Rest gathers in the town hall to discuss the allocation of funds raised for reconstruction and expansion efforts. According to the council vote, the lion's share of funding will be dedicated to bolstering the town's defenses and maintaining a more robust garrison, which has Captain Barksdale in a fine mood, despite the miserable weather blowing in from the west. A hearty fire crackles at the end of the long council table as the town's leadership goes through the mundane, bureaucratic tasks involved in civic funding and logistics... Until the door to the town hall slams open, a frigid, snowy gust scattering over the hall's flagstones. Mayor Liam Stonegrowth, notably late to the proceedings, strides through the door, beaming despite the frost on his mossy beard.
"Good gentlepeople of the Council!" he exclaims in uncharacteristic good cheer and formality, "my apologies for my tardiness. I was busy helping a new colleague of mine get their bearings--we have been corresponding for some time, but they have only just arrived in our fair town. I am honored to finally get the chance of introducing them to you, as after much discussion about our situation here in the Reach, they have decided to invest in the future of our growing settlement and have donated an incredibly generous 50,000sp to match our expansion funding goals, and will be joining our Council in an advisory capacity with a wealth of experience and technical expertise that may even rival your own, Master Archanosmith"--here he nods at Robin, and is about to go on, when the object of discussion herself steps out from the storm outside into the now much colder council room. A tall, regal-looking woman, clothed in exquisite and very expensive-looking finery and wrapped in an enormous ermine coat, gazes cooly at each of the council members in turn, before flashing a cool, white-toothed smile, and raising her arms generously in the direction of the baffled leaders of Last Rest.
"Ah, brave Council of Last Rest!" the woman exclaims. "I am so glad to finally meet you all in the flesh; Liam has told me so much about each of you. Allow me to introduce myself: Anastasia Gildenwerd" -- Robin gasps quietly as he hears the name, as do a few others on the council -- "Chief Financial Officer of Hephaestus Armaments. I am very much looking forward to working with you."
