12.28 - A Clockwork Conspiracy, Ch. 4

General Summary

Domokos, Sand-Fury, Eliana, and Riven head to the garrison to save the mayor. Everything's on fire but that doesn't stop them. They fight some Hephaestus goons attacking some surviving guards but blow them up, killing friend and foes alike. They see some goons capture an unconscious Stonegrowth, but a giant automoton bug busts in and wrecks shit. Riven blasts through the roof to cut off the enemy escape, Eliana misty steps into the remaining goons to save the mayor, and Domokos rides Sand-Fury into battle against the hulking metal bug, blasting it with some absolutely devestating breath weapon action. The bug still manages to crawl half-melted to the mayor and escape to the roof, but the party follows him up there. Riven snatches the mayor free as Eliana delivers the killing blow with the Blackrazor, which has freed itself from Haphaestus's shackles and transmutes Eliana's clockwork limbs into smooth obsidian extension of its own being. As the clockwork abomination explodes, the heroes manage to fly/fall free of the worst of the damage, successfully rescuing the mayor from Haphaestus's clutches, but finding no sign of Captain Barksdale or any surviving guardsmen. As an ashen dawn breaks, they must decide whether to take the fight to the mechanical ballista looming over the great hall, or investigate the wide-open Ogre Gate on the South Side of the city--while Robin and Elfriede deal with the archanotech Nexus in the hands of a ghost out of fairy tale legend.
