12.17 - Green Dragon Attack

General Summary

Alarms sounded in Last Rest as a dragon finally managed to push through the town's magical defenses. At the same time, panicked sending spells arrived, sent by the Druids of the nearby grove begging for aid, as a different dragon descended upon them.
Bronwen, Matthias, Hazel, and Grunk were faced with a difficult decision: to stay and protect Last Rest, or to use the one emergency teleportation that Elfriede left to aid their forest allies.
Matthias, Bronwen, and Hazel chose to stay. Grunk, on the other hand, took his monks and warped to the Druid Grove. Ferocious battles occurred in both locations. While the strength of Last Rest held, and not a single hero or townsfolk was killed, the dragon just barely escaped, having captured Matthias' Eldritch Patron. In the grove, Grunk went toe-to-toe with the other dragon, and nearly took it down before it flew towards the Darkwood holding the struggling body of Iorcala, and a curious rare scroll, in its teeth.
Both sets of heroes in hot pursuit, they found the battered dragons doing a ritual to seal the Eldritch Patron away, even going so far as to try to make a deal with Matthias to support their plan. Matthias, however, roared forward with rage, nearly cutting down the bargaining dragon where he stood.
Whether it was a reward for his loyalty or an act of pure chaos, he may never know, but the explosion of Wild Magic power from his body is a power that Matthias had never before felt. Connected by a tendril of necrotic energy, the Patron cooed with joy.
Seeing his friend destroyed, the second dragon attempted to flee, but was foiled by the entrance of Sig Powderpaw, who vortex warped the dragon back in front of Matthias. Between Bronwen's Tesseract Glove and Matthias' blades, its fate had been sealed.
As the party gathered themselves after the fight, the Patron opened its maw and ripped the souls of the two dragons from their corpses, hungrily absorbing their power. As Matthias curls himself around his Patron protectively, Hazel and Grunk get to work pillaging the bodies of their dragon foes.
