12.10 - Deathbots & Dynamite

General Summary

Robin and Elfriede set out for the ruins of Shadowell on a reconaissance mission from the council. There, they are set upon by around two dozen clockwork horrors that they will later learn were manufactured by the nefarious government contractor Hephaestus Arms; the metalic spiders swarmed them with razor-sharp mandibles, rotating saws, and laser bolts that at one point knocked Elfriede unconscious--however, Robin managed to interpose himself between his sorcerous friend long enough for the Sage of the Reach to regain his feet and knock out a sizeable portion of the bots with fireballs and shatter spells. However, the two heroes would have surely been overrun in that cold, snow-covered ruin--if it were not for the appearance of a new hero from the rooftops, a racoon-like humanoid with a golden arm and a firearm that rained down magic and gunpowder on the deathbots below. A few well-placed sticks of dynamite later, and Sig was introducing himself to a battle-scarred wizard and artificer; the three of them shared this stories, revealing that Sig's existence was the result of shady experimentation on the part of Hephaestus Arms utilizing newly acquired archanotech, and Sig was set on bringing them down. Elfriede and Robin realized that it must have been the archanotech that the Black Dragon Heroes sold to the Arcaneum that had gotten into Hephaestus's hands; Sig, understanding that neither of the others held any love for Hephaetus, invited them to travel back with him to his current crew--a group located to the southeast across the newly cooled volcanic landbridge, who he intimated had a bone to pick with the Kingdom of Falinior.
