11.2 - The Circle of the Forest

General Summary

While drunkenly boasting about their adventures at the Last Rest Tavern, Shloopurr, Bronwen, Eliana, and Ami meet a strange new face: Matthias Feybound, carrying a mysterious bundle against his chest joins the party, though his motivations remain unclear. With bravado high, the party decides to go where no adventurers had yet returned from, the northern hex of the Darkwood. Narrowly avoiding an encounter with giant forest spiders (assisted mostly with the unmatched stealth of Pim's muscular frame), the party emerged into a beautiful, verdant clearing and spoke with a few animals to learn about the surroundings.
Tracking a mysterious foul scent, they encountered twisted, undead-infused mud mephits. These mephits exploded into a vile necrotic sludge upon death, wounding much of the party and nearly killing the mysterious Matthias. However, the party eventually bested the creatures, and followed a squirrel to what's known as "The Circle of the Forest", a mountainside stronghold of native wood elf druids. Their leader, Reslin, granted the party temporary residence, access to the Circle's trader, and provided many quest hooks in the potential future.
