11.18 - Rebuilding Shadowell

General Summary

Eliana and Schloopur take on a contract to safeguard a construction team as they attempt to rebuild Shadowell as an outpost and port for the Kingdom of Falinor, their efforts all the more urgent in light of the growing goblin threat in the east. Upon arriving, they encounter a new face in these lands, a hag-like druid named Hazel, who was drawn there in search of the source of evil corruption she sensed in this place. After witnessing Shloopur's cursed handaxe respond to the remnants of the Shadowell portal, both Hazel and Eliana become concerned, but are unable to convince Shloopur to part with it. On the fifth day of construction, Hazel nearly manages to steal the axe while Shloopurr is sleeping, but after the two of them run into each other in the dark and knock each other unconscious, Eliana takes the cursed weapon into her possession.
The next morning, a goblin raid hits the village. In the first few moments of battle, nearly the entire construction crew is mercilessly slaughtered by the goblins and their wargs, despite Eliana's quick work with the bow, Shloopur's bardic magic, and Hazel's truly terrifying spore druidcraft. After a bloodbath of an encounter, with things looking grim for several party members, the fight is ended by an earthquake followed by a river of molten fire from the nearby volcano. As the goblins and heroes flee, the form of a large red dragon can be seen hovering possessively over the wreckage of the would-be port.
