To the Muchik and Quingnam peoples, the gods are not thought of as impersonal or symbolic forces of nature, but rather individual actors who have personality and concretely influence the world. Some are landmarks and natural objects while others are agents or possessive spirits who interject themselves into society and history. Millions of local deities populate the world, but these are the most important deities worshiped across the country and which feature in the story.
