Technology

Aeldvaren tech is entirely magic-based. They don’t even forge weaponry or jewelry through purely-mundane methods. It’s all magic-fire-this and magic-water-that. They mass-produce nothing, and most of their production is textile or smallform jewelcrafting.   Duovari are the true, traditional craftsmen. They do nothing industrially, but they have perfected individual metalwork (up to about clock-level complexity) and can produce the finest weapons of any race. Their architecture is also beautiful and lasts an Aeldvaren lifetime. Nothing they do is cheap or “okay” quality. They set the bar for any handmade creation of physical materials, and almost none can match their standards.   Hymvari are the tinkering bastards. They’re up to almost-industrial-revolution levels of metalwork and combustion engines and steam-powered nonsense. They’re the ones who engineer and create war machines, explosive weapons, and other high-impact gadgets. They do mass-produced objects, weapons, and pieces of housing. The only control valve to their productivity is how fast and how much they can mine, which is determined by the Duovari in the area and the Hymvari’s relationship with those clans.   Urkvari have zero technology. Most of them don’t even use stone weapons, let alone bother making metal ones (though they might scavenge and use other races’ weaponry). The most advanced of any of their ‘tech’ is their leatherworking, which is still absolutely basic.   Nagvari have magic-based tech, much like the Aeldvari. Their use of metal is minimal, since it takes a lot more magic for an underwater forge, but their use of stone is as beautiful and sturdy as Duovaren architecture. They’ve developed a bevy of cultural objects and handmade weapons equal to what the Aeldvari or Duovari can produce, albeit with very different materials and underwater-only properties. Their deep-sea kingdoms and coral reef cities are as magnificent as any Duovaren creation or Aeldvaren settlement. They are not as tinkery as Duovari, though - no clocks down here - and are usually content to be as technologically “advanced” as the Aeldvari are.
