Gruel Savior Character in Ysireth | World Anvil

Gruel Savior

The "Gruel Savior" was a tem'Duovar who lived 11,000 years ago on Harokin. An extremely skilled botanist and herbalist, she survived the Shattering long enough to flee west to the Goldhand Stonedom, sheltering underground with the rest of the few survivors.   Most kinvari are manabound, and while the Goldhand territories were wealthy enough to have considerable premade mana stored for future and emergency use, the needs of so many refugees swiftly depleted that stock. With titans wandering and battling each other above-ground, carelessly destroying settlements and entire communities, environmental arcana was non-existent, as each titan seemed to have an arcana-absorbing aura that extended out from its location for miles. Arcane magic was useless, and so it was impossible to replenish the dwindling stores of mana.   FirstName was one of very few hill dwarves to have survived past the initial titan incursion, and most stone dwarves did not share her people's intimate knowledge of medicinal plants. She recalled a particular flower that seemed to collect arcana like morning dew, and with a few other brave kinvari, she set out to forage for it. In time, and not without terrible danger and loss, she found the Mana-Catcher Bloom in the lowlands of her former home. It, however, was not responsible for collecting arcana, but its symbiotic spider was--and, somehow, the silk of the mana-catcher spider could preserve arcana by converting it into mana within the weave of its web, rendering it safe from the arcana-leeching radius of the titans.   Neither blooms nor spiders were particularly endangered, but they would not thrive in the sunless high altitudes of the caverns in the mountains to the west. FirstName painstakingly figured out how to care for them, how to multiply them, and where she could plant them to be as close as possible to the few exits of the Goldhand stonedom. It was their only source of wild mana, and it was barely enough to stave off mana starvation.   In time, FirstName met SecondName, a stone dwarf alchemist-turned-chef. Together, they figured out how to preserve and distill the mana within the silk into the now-standard Purple Gruel that was every survivor's daily fare. Even in modern-day Harokin, kinvari still toast to those two dwarves before every meal.
