Stone of Fire

The Stone of Fire is a powerful artifact connected to the Plane of Fire. The Stone is a large ruby gemstone that was set into a platinum ring during the Draconic Age. Originally kept as a set alongside the other three elemental Stones, the Stone of Fire was stolen during the Dragon Wars to be used as a weapon, however no record of its use exists. In more contemporary history, the Stone of Fire has become a religious relic for the Kindlers of the Eternal Flame, a church that worships the Elemental Plane of Fire.

History

It's unclear when the Elemental Stones were created, though the first record of their existence comes from the Draconic Age. The dwarves of the time had collected the Elemental Stones, setting them into rings to contain their power. Each Stone was given a band based upon its place in the cosmic hierarchy: primary elemental planar stones were given platinum bands, para-elemental stones were given golden bands, quasi-elemental stones were given silver bands, and any other powerful stones were given copper bands.   During the Dragon Wars, many of the Elemental Stones went missing, including the Stone of Fire. It is difficult to say for certain whether the stone had received any actual usage during the Dragon Wars, as reported sightings of the stone are sparse, with many being later confirmed to just have been caused by a red dragon's fire breath. When the Dragon Wars ended, the remaining stones were hidden, and all attempts to recover the missing stones proved to be fruitless.   The Stone of Fire was one of the first to reappear, with the first reported sighting occurring in Orborosa in the year 3E 417 At the time, the Stone was in the process of being retrieved from the collection of a notorious collector of dwarven relics named Braknus Silvermane, who was facing legal trouble due to his habit of raiding dwarven ruins. The stone itself was located in an ancient dwarven lockbox whose mechanism had rusted away, though Braknus claimed he had never attempted to open it, and was unaware of its contents.   The Stone of Fire would resurface during the Lithos War, with the Sanumic Combine collecting the Stone of Fire in an attempt to harness the powers of the Elemental Chaos. It's unclear if their plans yielded any success, as records of the Combine's experiments were destroyed whenever Combine facilities were under threat. The stones were recovered from the ruins of Lithos following the war's conclusion and scattered around the globe, with the Stone of Fire ending up in Apton.   Its most recent appearance was in 7E 381 with the formation of the Kindlers of the Eternal Flame.
