Wolfdog
Young lady, those are wolfdogs. I really wouldn't get close, those teeth could rip you to shreds in seconds.Wolfdogs are dangerous reptiles living in and around the Brine River and Great Lakes in Ocearia. They are the apex predators, their packs dominating the waters and preying on everything else in the areas.
But I want onneeee!!
I'm sorry, they're too dangerous. Do you want perhaps a cute little fish?
Basic Information
Anatomy
These creatures have one of the largest heads compared to bodies on the planet. The scales on their heads are thicker than on their bodies, and their eyes are positioned far on top their heads. The ends of their jaws curl up and down, their teeth following them and pointing outwards. A small neck leads to a thin body, with 2 pairs of pectoral fins that connect to 2 arms, 2 fins on each arm. The front fin has a sharp talon on it, that is used to stab prey. Their primitive legs end in two stubby toes, with blunt claws and a fin like appendage on the back of the leg. Their tails are long and muscular, ending in a triangular fin.
Genetics and Reproduction
Wolfdogs are very territorial when females are pregnant and looking after eggs. Females will leave to a large cave when they are pregnant, with males hunting down food together and bringing it to them. Gestation period is 55-110 days, where females will lay eggs all together in one massive clutch in a single cave, with all of the wolfdogs protecting them.
Growth Rate & Stages
Wolfdogs grow at a very slow pace. It takes 30 years for a juvenile to grow to adulthood, sexual maturity reached at 26 years. Their lifespan is 50 years, meaning more than half of their life is spent growing to adulthood. Wolfdogs can only join the hunting in the pack when they are 20 years old, after spending the first 10 hiding and watching while the adults and older juveniles hunt, spending their time learning how.
Dietary Needs and Habits
One of the most successful predators, they take advantage of their packs to corner their prey, which is usually a very large creature that they can snack on all at once, feeding the entire pack. They have a very varied diet, however primarily eating fish and crustaceans. They have even been known to kill baby leviathans like blob leviathans.
Lifespan
50 years
Average Length
3 metres
Geographic Distribution
I wonder how big of a pond would the young lady need to have to adopt a wolfdog? :D Very interesting species and with a cute predatorish look to it. It feels like a lot of time to become a member of society. 10 years of watching and learning, another 10 to join the hunt, another 10 to reach adulthood. Even though they are apex predators, which makes them all the more similar to humans, do they form a relationship with other predators?
I think it'd need to be a preeetty big one xD I never really thought about them being kind of similar to humans. And I suspect they don't really mingle with other predators, as they live in packs and that's all they need. Thank you for the like, comment and feedback! <3
