Hairdo Mushroom

Hairdo mushrooms are small mushrooms found in the The Frost Lands. They are named after the cap which resembles long black hair.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Hairdo mushrooms have a dark grey stem, with a black cap. The cap extends down far on one side, and short on the other, resembling a fringe, where it gets its name. The cap also has streaks like hair, and feels like hair too. The longest pert of the cap is over 6cm long, and the stem itself is about 8.

Genetics and Reproduction

Hairdo mushrooms store millions of their spores under the low drooping cap. Once the spore cluster gets too heavy, they fall to the ground, get picked up by the wind and fly low to the ground until they get stopped by an obstacle. They then plant themselves in the ground and grow close to a tall object, trees, houses, etc.

Growth Rate & Stages

The spores take a few days to grow into a small pod, then the mushroom can take weeks to grow due to the colder climates in the Frost Lands.

Ecology and Habitats

Hairdo mushrooms grow best in shaded environments, close to large objects like trees or houses. They nestle themselves in cracks and crevices, and within tree roots, absorbing its nutrients.
