Greenerth Biomes

There are 10 major biomes on Greenerth. Temperate Forest, Boreal Forest, Tropical Rainforest, Grassland, Savanna, Desert, Ocean, Reef, Frozen Plains, Mountains.
All these biomes are an umbrella term, many different versions of these biomes exist, e.g. Mushroom Forest is a type of Temperate Forest. These biomes are very big, stretching across entire continents.

Continents

The Region of Sarra is home to 6 biomes, savannas, deserts, temperate forests, tropical rainforests, grasslands and mountains. This continent has a whopping 3 tropical rainforests, the most in any continent, and makes up 3/5 of the rainforests on Greenerth in terms of separate forests. The continent also has the only desert regions in the entire world, Sarra desert and South Sarra desert.   The Tropics has the least amount of biomes, only 3. These are savannas, grasslands and tropical rainforests. The entirety of Southland is a savanna biome, and the island east of Tropacia is only a rainforest.   Trecath has the coldest biomes in total along with the Frost Lands. The continent includes frozen plains, temperate and boreal forests and mountains. The mountain range isn't the biggest on Greenerth, but it manages to completely fill 2 countries as well as portions of 4 others.   The Frost Lands only have 3 biomes, like the Tropics, mountains, boreal forests and frozen plains. There are 2 mountain ranges, the Frost Mountain Range and the Miorin Mountain Range.   Aekor has the largest amount of biomes, 7. Mountains, temperate, boreal and tropical rainforests, savannas, grasslands and swamplands. The swamplands and tropical rainforests take up a surprising amount of land in Mirikith and Atheau. The savanna and grasslands are found in the west of Aekor.

Conditions

Each biome is relatively different from each other, and they are categorised into 3: Cold, Temperate, and Hot.

Cold biomes

Cold biomes include Boreal forests, Mountains and Frozen Plains. These biomes have a temperature on average of about 5º in Summer, and in Winter anything below that.

Boreal Forest

Boreal Forests are the colder variants of temperate forests. They are usually made of trees of many varieties, reds, oranges and yellows, greens, blues, and purples. The ground is a mixture of soil and stone, and grass finds it hard to grow here.

Mountains

Mountains, the tallest natural sights you'll find. They come in a range of heights, thousands of metres tall, with their snowy caps. Plateaus and meadows form along the sides of it, bringing in a nice range of creatures and plants. However, they are dangerous, one wrong slip and off you go down the entire mountain.

Frozen Plains

Frozen plains are the polar (literally) opposites of deserts. A completely frozen wasteland, you'll struggle to find many signs of life, except for some short grass species and a few sickle deer. I wouldn't recommend living here either, it gets dangerously cold in winters and in summers it isn't warm either.

Temperate biomes

Temperate biomes include Grasslands and Temperate Forests. These biomes have a temperature that can range a lot, but generally stay above cold biome temperatures and hot biome temperatures.

Grassland

Arguably the most peaceful biome, grasslands are flat open areas with lots of grasses growing, tall and short. During summers there is an abundance of flower species which bring in a lot of insects too, and you'll find lots of herbivores grazing in fields.

Temperate Forest

Temperate forests are basically just grasslands with trees. The trees also range in colours, mostly greens with a splash of yellows and oranges. The area is flat and shaded, and a lot of bird species and nocturnal mammals are found burrowing in the ground.

Hot biomes

Hot biomes include Tropical Rainforests, Deserts, Savannas and Swamplands. These biomes have a temperature exceeding 30º on average in summers, and in winters between that and 20º.

Tropical Rainforest

Tropical rainforests are full of tropical plant life, over 50% of the world's plant species are found in these biomes. The soil is mineral rich, supporting a great host of plants. The trees are also densely packed, and within the deepest parts of the forests are the tribes that call these places home. As much as rainforests seem enticing, they are dangerous too, creatures of all sizes can kill you.

Desert

Deserts are the arid biomes, completely made of sand and sand dunes. If you're lucky, you'll find an oasis, frequented by Charmites whos slime they leave slowly replenishes this sandy wasteland, growing new plants wherever they go, building up these oases into large forests. If you're unlucky, you're hallucinating.

Savanna

Savannas are boiling grasslands, growing a plethora of unusual trees, that use different unique mechanisms to survive, such as holding in water or having roots miles long. There are also a surprising amount of creatures to be found here, often large roaming herbivores.

Swamplands

Swamplands are the muggiest environments on Greenerth. Full of holes and caverns, this environment is flooded half the time, with large trees with dangling roots that reach through the caves forming what looks like prisons. Swamps aren't the friendliest places to be, lots of dangerous insects and amphibians are found here, that never kill by biting, always something unusual.
West - Region of Sarra
South - Tropics
East - Aekor
Northeast - Frost Lands
North - Trecath

Oceans

There are 2 ocean biomes, Oceans and Reefs. Oceans are by far the most plentiful, but Reefs are the more tropical version of Oceans, with more coral life, more tropical species of marine creatures, and a warmer ocean temperature.

Reef

Reefs are found in 4 locations on Greenerth. These do not limit the amount of coral reefs found, as coral reefs can grow in cold oceans. Reefs have a sea temperature of 26º or more, and they are much more shallow than oceans, rarely exceeding a couple hundred metres. Reefs are found off the coast of west and east Aekor, the southern coast of Tropacia, and the west coast of the Region of Sarra.

Coral Reefs

Coral reefs, unlike their biome counterparts, reefs, can occur throughout the world regardless of temperature. Coral reefs are characterised by the abundance of coral (as given by their name), tropical marine life and other plant species, such as kelp.   The most famous coral reef is Surbaria Reef, off of the coast of Tropacia, in Surbaria. It was entirely artificial, being built on a large ship and its containers that sunk just a hundred metres off of the coast. The ship extends out of the water as a landmark, and underneath other boats that were no longer in use have been purposely sunk as a base for the reef. Coral polyps were planted by the Surbaria People, and they grew fast, taking to the ships very well.

It's been a while since I read your articles for the last time, the new world theme looks very beautiful! Well done, I like that you described each biome pretty detailed yet concise at the same time :) Maybe a good addition to the sidebar could be a map, but well, maybe you're already working on it :) Good job!
