Feltraste

Feltraste are large apex predators in the rainforests of the Region of Sarra. They are regarded as the most dangerous creature in any rainforest, with abilities to climb, swim, run, and a prehensile tail which allows them to sneak in the canopy as well as the ground.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Feltraste have six legs made mostly of muscle, which have large paws for gripping the sides of walls. Its thin layer of fur is a mottled green, ranging from light to dark. It has a large head with impressively strong jaws, able to break the toughest of bones. They have a long prehensile tail that can grip onto branches and other objects which makes climbing trees much easier. Feltraste have long snouts that can store water, and superheat it and release the water as steam through the 6 holes on its upper snout.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Feltraste are carnivores, at the top of the food chain. They eat any animal that they can find, but fortunately they don't really go after harmonids as their flesh is too salty. This does not stop them from attacking people; when tribes people get too close to their territory they are very well known for attacking and killing. They are also known to attack unprovoked.

Hunting methods

Feltrastes have many ways of hunting. Usually, they prey on large herbivores that wander the ground floor, waiting in the treetops and watching them walk past, then pouncing down and crushing their necks and heads with their jaws.   Feltrastes also like to boil their prey to death. After drinking lots of water, they can heat it in their snouts and release the water as steam or boiling water. They like to squirt it out of their mouths directly at their prey, cooking them and then eating them.

Mythology

Feltrastes are feared by native tribes and populations in the Nyagu Rainforest. From countless unprovoked attacks by feltrastes that were usually fatal, stories spread about these vicious creatures and rather quickly they developed a bad reputation. They were commonly associated with demons and evil, stories of menacing feltrastes prowling the jungles are told to children to keep them from leaving their homes and getting into dangerous situations.
