Demon Dologoths
Demon Dologoths are legendary creatures within Sarran culture and mythology. The demon dologoths are said to have been possessed by demons from the Darkness Dimension, a mythical dimension full of horror, and the Horror Dimension's parallel.
Summary
About 15000 years ago, a crack in the Darkness Dimension appeared, allowing a bunch of demons to enter Greenerth. These demons tried to terrorise the people of the planet, but to their surprise remained perfectly calm. After a while the demons realised that people can't see them, so they couldn't terrorise them. They decided to possess a bunch of creatures to do so but found it hard since the creatures have a strong mind. They eventually found dologoths, a large ovine with a weak mind, easy to penetrate.
These now possessed dologoths began to scare the owner of the farm that the creatures used to live near, and scared him to death one night when he woke up to a sheep staring at his face with red eyes. The news of the mans death travelled around the town, scaring all the farmers and they made sure they locked the doors very securely at night. The farmers had some specialist mages take a look at all their flocks of dologoths, to try and determine if any of them were possessed. To the mage's surprise, none were. It was speculated that the several demons had left the dologoth bodies and travelled to new hosts in new areas, now that they had terrorised the town.
New cases of people being scared to death propped up in various small towns, as the demons travelled through the continent. As cases piled up, they began appearing in cities. It is thought every time the demons killed someone, they became slightly more powerful, and could possess stronger hosts, which meant they could enter cities and kill there.
There are very few cases of people being scared by the demons, but it is enough to scare the continent, which raised the demand for demon mages, special mages who's entire jobs were to study demons, learn about them and their weaknesses, and try and drive them away from the planet.
Historical Basis
According to legend these demons appeared 15000 years ago, the rift in the sky appeared over a farmyard just south of Silica. These demons were described as 6 legged beings with long bodies, necks and tails, with a white blank face and an overstretched mouth that reached right the way round its face. Since harmonids can't see the demons, they were described by the demon mages who could see their outlines and vague details. A mage who saw the rift open also drew it, and the picture can be seen in the Mythics Gallery in the capital.
Spread
Demon dologoths are well known throughout the Region of Sarra, and not unheard of in other continents. While the demons have not left the island continent, they have reached its borders, managing to terrorise most settlements in the region.
Variations & Mutation
The thing that changes most in stories of the demons is the demons themselves. Many different people describe the demons as different things. Some describe them how they were first, others describe them as giant leeches that suck out the souls of things and inhabit its empty space, others describe them as feline, and even as giant birds that dive into the body of the host to possess them.
