The Vakiir

-The Vakiir   Birds native to Phanxnoccrim   The information here is basically a collection of unsorted facts about this species, and will need to be recombobulated into something easier to follow.   Flightless birds that resemble any Corvid species. Although other types of predator/carrion bird are possible, they are rarely seen, and are usually a result of an irregular event, or intentional meddling. Some less rare types are similar to vultures. There are also an eagle and an owl bloodline that persist in the upper echelons of society.   These birds have sleek and soft black feathers. They do have wings, but the wings are attached how a bat's wings would be, with one end of the wing at the hip, and the other connecting at the wrist. The wing structure can fold in on itself to grant the Vakiir more dexterity with their arms, or unfold to a sizeable wingspan. In general The wings provide a broad variety of uses inaccessible to non-avian mortals.   Vakiir have taloned claws for hands and feet. Their beaks are strong and sharp. While capable of viscously defending themselves, the Vakiir are not inherently aggressive.   Vakiir have a hardcore digestive system and can eat literally anything biodegradable. Assuming the lack of poison, venom, or toxins, the biodegradable matter will be completely broken down. Dust and sand are not too terrible for the gut, and sustenance can even be gained from the mites in the bites of the ground. This ability to pull nutrients and proteins out of almost anything is one of the reasons this species has thrived in the wastelands of phanxnoccrim.   The immune system of the Vakiir was designed to be especially vigilant with antibodies that can be attached to and flush out most contaminants, such as viruses and bacteria. They are more susceptible to toxins, venoms, and poisons... however are generally immune to catching contagions, even energetic or magical ones.   This bird race calls the mesas and plateaus of phanxnoccrim home, and they have carved intricate and complex (expansive) cities into the cliffsides. Under normal circumstances it is very difficult for a Vakiir to get lost. They have a subconscious sense of direction, and can find their way to past locations almost instinctively. Much like the inner ear maintains one's balance. We don't ask it to, it just does. We subconsciously "know" how to stand up straight. We just do it.   -- Air stuff below --   The Vakiir cannot naturally fly, but they still have very useful wings. These wings allow the Vakiir to use Hypoxokinetic abilities, like aeromancy and hypergen manipulation. They can also use "air elementalism" without an alignment to any deity. They have a deep connection to the breath of the world. It is like a heart beating the blood of the body, but instead is air being breathed by the lungs.   Most species have a complex interpersonal relationship with their blood and heart, even if it might be subconscious, it all works together seamlessly. The same is with breathing, except the air is as much a part of the lungs as blood would be to a heart. While other species merely need air to breathe, The Vakiir have a very intimate relationship with air that allows them to flow with it, and "ask" the air to function a certain way. Similar to how if you wanted to move your fingers, you, your mind, would "ask" your fingers to move. While not afflicted with their own will, they still must be actually functional enough to move. If your hand is "asleep", your fingers will not respond as intended, if at all. Air is similar, and it will occasionally not respond properly, basically declining the request causing nothing to happen.   ^^^ Air stuff above --   Vakiir have a complex eye structure, and can see the world in a way that is difficult for other mortals to grasp. There are clear, concave membranes separated by a biological hydrologic fluid that can be slightly pressurized and depressurized to change the curvature. The membranes are held in place by incredibly strong muscles that expand and contact to widen or narrow the membranes. This is an oversimplification of very complicated anatomy that grants Vakiir the ability to see very clearly and very accurately from very far away in a very wide range of varying lighting levels. Verily.   In Vakiir reproduction, the mortality rate of fledgling chicks is very high, and less than 10% of Vakiir reach adulthood. Others simply wither away due to unknown processes.   Vakiir bones heal rather quickly. The bones are hollow, and contain a weak neurolytic fluid. When another creature consumes parts of a Vakiir, they can suffer from night terrors, hallucinations, and a variety of other severe mental breakdowns as the fluid eats away at the brain. Many creatures native to Phanxnoccrim will not attempt to consume a Vakiir. Vakiir musculature can atrophy quickly, but also heals quickly and responds very well to physical training.   Vakiir are highly compatible with abyssal, voidbourne, and nightmare energies. They make excellent Augors and FleshShapers, and are a common sight to see amongst the Reavers.   Vakiir are not bothered by the heat. They barely notice it. Something about the connection to air helps to keep them comfortable and cool.   The cold is difficult for the Vakiir because it causes issues with circulation. This results in spiritual lethargy, mental haziness and an almost magnetic pull to warmer areas even if they are thousands of miles away.
  • Xaxaza Zaracha
  • A deity level entity that created the Vakiir   ++Find the random notes on this and create a separate, coagulated article.   Xaxaza Zaracha is a Falderdine with the physical appearance of a winged beast, with a person sized body covered in wings that are lined on the edges with fern-like energy structures. Xax does not seem to have a face, or any appendages, aside from his wings. The wings vibrate to cause sound waves in the air, and this deity "speaks" in a way that seems to crash through every part of the listener's body.
