Port Sharkath

The Marshak Clan created this settlement primarily as a pirate haven. The purpose of this place has changed dramatically since then, and is now a port of many purposes. With the pirate haven now located elsewhere, this has become a haven for anyone trying to escape, or engage in frowned upon monetary activities.

Demographics

The number of people who actually live here is relatively small compared to how many people are in the area in general.   Many races visit this port city for various purposes. This is a unique place within Ylly. There are other ports and cities that tolerate, allow, or even welcome multiple species and ideologies. There are a few organizations where mortal and immortal beings cooperate or live. Port Sharkath is the only place within Ylly where you can find everything and everyone of all types.    Mortal and immortal beings visit this place for a wide variety of reasons, and it's not uncommon to find creatures with incredible lifespans living here.    Fae'kyrie are normally hostile to mortal beings, but a few dozen live here, tending to their own destinies free from the hate of their god    Two Xethrax live here. They've distanced themselves from their nation and people, referring to them as a "cult" at best. The two Xethrax are incredible shipwrights, and are know for building large and elaborate ships and other floating constructs. Kings, generals, and the very rich come here to commission the best ships Ylly has to offer.   This is the only place in Ylly where mortals will relatively often see creatures that originated outside Ylly. Otherworldly beings that defy the laws of nature as we know it. They're probably just here for the new flavor of ice cream. One of these beings lives here. A strange man from a place he calls "Liathra". His body has strange metals infused with his bones. His skin has a few small chunks of metal sticking out at a few places. Prominently in the arms and head.   For the most part those who live here live well. Fishing, trade, and industry provides a comfortable lifestyle for most.

Government

Sharkath is lead by a committee of planners that have been appointed by the Marshak Clan. The members of this committee are tasked with the general upkeep and upgrade of the area. The goal is to keep everything in relatively good shape, and make improvements whenever possible.   The law here is very loose. The general idea is : don't kill anyone or cause a big scene and you're good. Slaves are allowed but selling, buying, or trading slaves is technically not allowed. The peacekeepers here are tasked with maintaining the very loosely defined concept of peace, but primarily exist to protect the port from incursions. Most people tend to avoid the isles in general, but the few who do will find themselves confronting powerful foes that sometimes use forbidden techniques.   The people who truely hold power here are the various owners of the various dry docks. This is the primary source of revenue in the area, and business is booming. Friends, enemies, predators, prey, gods and kings all visit here to commission ships. The peacekeepers ensure there is no large scale conflict, and the port maintains a reputation for being the only place in Ylly where anyone from anywhere can get any kind of watercraft no matter how big or small.

Defences

The law enforcement "peacekeepers" are the only constant defense for the port, but they are more than enough. Their ranks contain creatures of many types, and are diverse enough that it makes them very difficult to fight. There are less than a hundred of these peacekeepers but it is more than enough, the wide variety of abilities give rise to combinations that defy logic.    There are wards near and around the port and waters that repel large creatures and help calm turbulent waves.

Districts

The black courtyard :
  • this area is similar to a large rotunda with hundreds of permanent shops built into the walls, and temporary stalls that go up and come down as black market traders, pawn brokers, and illicit salespeople in general. The idea is they have every thing, and if they don't have it, they can get it. The sales here are completely unregulated, and prices of the same object type can vary greatly between vendors. The fencitrens (those who buy illicit goods aka a fence) the fencitrens are always eager to buy up the loot of visitors, and will buy almost anything.
