Third World

It is almost universally believed that this is the Third world created by the gods.

Summary

When the Second world was destroyed, the goddess Laifa, wife of Temur was inconsolable.   She had loved the previous world so much that on the last sunset of that world, she walked on the last beach, mourning all that was about to end. She sought out the most beautiful stone on that beach and put it in her pocket as a keepsake, and returned to Temur to show him the treasure she had found.   Even with this precious memento, Temur could do nothing to bring her out of her misery. So he asked Laifa to give him the stone. He and placed it deep in the fire of his hearth. When the stone grew hot and molten, Temur took it from the fire and rolled the stone out as if it were merely warm bread dough. He pulled and shaped that stone, making it carefully into a world his wife would be proud to love again. When he showed her his work, her tears of sorrow turned to tears of joy as they first quenched the molten stone, then filled the oceans. When the world finally cooled, the two of them breathed life across the world, filling it with trees and flowers, grass, shrubs and all manners of creatures.

Historical Basis

The age of some of the ruins scattered about indicate Yerth is probably much older than this myth indicates. However, some religious texts claim the gods believe, even promote this myth. Scholars are not able to reconcile the two conflicting theories.

Variations & Mutation

Different cultures place different gods as the ones who made the world
  • Dwarves believe Murin the Maker  forged the world on his anvil from the purest metal the gods could find.
  • Dragonkin believe the third world hatched from the broken shell of the Second world after Bahamut put the cracked egg in front of the sun in an attempt to revive Tiamat.
