Vaintum Tihja (Common Tinjongnian: veɪntʌm tiʒɑ)

General Summary

The Kingdom of Tihja is the oldest and most populous region of Tinjongnia, its founding marking the start of the 1st century EY. It has a population of over 3 million and is home to the imperial capital, Tihja City. In 1487, it unified with the Kingdom of Zivia to, formin g Tinjongnia. Its first Vaint was Eric Vouzalier Tijone and its current Vaint is Eric (XVIII) Thaler Tijone.

History

Founding Period (100 EY-206 AY)

The Vaintum Tihja was founded by Eric Vouzalier Tijone circa 100 EY. It started out as just a small city on the bank of a river. Though the official title of the territory was Vaint (derivative of the Tin title Vantoro), it controlled territory around the size of a large city. Later Vaints of this period would spend a lot of resources defending against the native Verdunderi Tribes of northeast Emenaziya.

Static Period (206-883)

The Static Period saw the stagnation of Tihjan expansion as famine plagued the kingdom and the Verdunderi and Armineri Gyepirates constantly threatening the stability of Tihja. In 880, at the Battle of Wurki, Vaint Beurn II is kill by a volley of arrows and his son, Eric IX becomes Vaint. Eric IX fights the Verdunderi to avenge his father and defeats them at the Battle of Kordim, killing many Verdunderi warriors.

Medieval Period (883-1487)

After Eric IX defeats the Verdunderi at Kordim, he subjugates the Verdunderi and establishes the original title of Kypir of Verdunderlon, which would be given to a loyal Verdunderi warrior Galo Nerem, but the title would eventually disappear until its later revival. This marks the start of Tihja's territorial expansion. In 1241, Fynks Renid, a second-cousin of Erix XII, inherits the Sai Oveurate from his Demerae mother. Tihja would have little de facto control over Saiya but the inheritance of it from the rich Demerae family greatly bolstered Tihja's dwindling prominence. The territory would return to Tolu-Demer in 1459 with the death of Ofynks Delean. Tihja would eventually conquer all of the northern region of the Emenaz Peninsula, beginning its rivalry with the Xivenyu countries. In 1481, Vaint Pilen IV of Zivia and Vaint Vicyli I of Tihja negotiate a union of Tihja and Zivia through a marriage with his daughter, Hersaphali. Pilen IV passes his title to Hersaphali, and her and Vicyli marry in 1484. Vicyli Mala Tijone is born in 1487, securing their union.

Imperial Vaintum (1487-1585)

Even after Vicyli I elevated his title to Vaintoreks of Tinjongnia, he kept Tihja and Zivia as separate Vaintums. After the Second Xivenyu-Tinjongnia War, Phalus I gave most of the Maderot of Mena to Tihja, creating the Aimenilon region. He also gave it part of the Zet Oveurate, creating the Aizetilon region. In 1585, Thejari I dissolved the Vaintums in an attempt to create a common Tinjongnian identity and to make administation of the regions more efficient.

Kantu Tihja (1585-1739)

Tihja was no longer officially ruled by the Vaintoreks/Vaint, but was ruled by a democratically elected Kan (the title of Kan is similar to the title of governor). In 1606, Andalafynks Theja Opal Tijone set himself up to become the first Vaintoreks to marry an ethnic Tihjan (he'd become Vaintoreks in 1619 on his father's death). In 1619, after the Third Tinjongnian-Xivenyu War, Thejari gave all of Mena and Tien to Tihja, including the cities of Ataiziv and Arenai, as well as half of Zeta. Western Tihja would be substantially impacted by the Great Xivenyu War, with a few thousand starving. Phalus II took power in 1634 on the death of his brother and established an official border between the newly created Aizivenyu Kantu and Tihja. The Vaintum would be reestablished in 1739 by Vaintoreks Eric I.

Modern Tihja (1739-)

After the reestablishment of the Vaintum in 1739, Vaintoreks Eric I would also become Vaint Eric XV of Tihja. In 1811, the Vinladian Republican Navy invaded Tihja City, beginning the Tinjongnian-Vinlad War. The Tihjan Defense Forces worked constantly to push Vinladian forces out of Tihja. By 1816, they had successfully killed or pushed all Vinladian forces out of Tihja. In 1853, Vaintoreks Eric III became the second Vaintoreks to marry an ethnically Tihjan woman, and Vaintoreks Enphus would become the first majority Tihjan Vaintoreks since Phalus II. Today, the kingdom is the most populous region of Tinjongnia, with over 3 million people. It is an important historical, cultural, economical, and political center of Tinjongnia.
