Khaguran
Khaguran
"You've always been too trusting."
Physical Description
General Physical Condition
Khaguran is thin and carries himself as one of good standing within the courts, though he avoids them as often as possible. He clutches the right side of his stomach, suffering from an unknown illness. His stomach pains do not allow him to be agile. Instead, he prefers to lure his enemies into a false sense of security before striking.
Apparel & Accessories
Khaguran can be seen with many scrolls and books.
Mental characteristics
Personal history
Khaguran was a firebrand in his youth. As an infant, he was snatched from his home by a minor Khan following a dispute over protection money. Although he never knew his real parents and was too young to remember his homeland, he longed for the truth. He always knew he was different, made painfully aware of the fact by the others. Alone, he would fantasize about what his true people were like, and how his life could have been different.
Growing quickly, Khaguran was ostracized by his peers due to his strange habits and looks. He developed an avoidant personality, though he would hide his feelings behind a jovial face. Despite acting out for attention, he delved deep into studying. While his peers would burn libraries, he would steal as many books as possible. As he grew stronger, he would take scholars prisoner during the raids. He would force these captives to teach him not only of their own cultures but of what lay beyond. This was how he learned his own truth. Not only his true nature and birthright he was, thankfully, robbed of, but the secrets the Khans never shared.
As a young adult, he now rides with a new purpose. His soul burns brightly with a pure hatred against the Outsiders. Once fated to be sacrificed to a false god that his own people despised, he now seeks to forge a new path. With Mutugen, he chases after the First Vampire, wishing to harness its power to renew the lands.
Education
Khaguran is an eternal student. He learned of horsemanship, archery, and sword fighting from watching those born into wealth. He bore an axe among the laborers, training his muscles against the forests. Medicine, herbalism, and food preparation were taught by the elderly and camp followers who raised him.
He learned of religions and the occult from captives. He studied geography from forbidden books.
Only animal care was self-taught-- and he bears many scars and bite marks as proof.
Accomplishments & Achievements
He has accomplished a considerable amount in his life, yet he remains convinced he has done nothing of worth. He has gained the ear of a doom-scryer and has retained a far greater knowledge of the world than most of his peers. The discovery of his destined fate is one of his most personal achievements.
Although he is often lacking in battle, the skills he shows are a testament to his own tenacious attitude.
Failures & Embarrassments
His desire for truth has been full of challenges and difficulties. Much of the knowledge he had prided himself in has turned out to be lies. The closer he draws towards the truth, to meaning, the more he realizes that he understands nothing.
During one of his earliest raids, his companions set the building he was in on fire. Barely able to escape, his body never fully healed from the damage. He has borne a lifelong grudge for the scars they had inflicted on him.
Mental Trauma
Knowledge brings many to the brink of despair. Khaguran is no different. He suffers from severe mood swings and disassociates often. Since discovering that he was intended to be sacrificed to an Outsider as a child, his episodes have gotten far worse. Sometimes it seems like he believes that the Outsider is still waiting for him.
Morality & Philosophy
Khaguran does not pity those who bring troubles onto themselves. Despite his tribalism mentality, he remains willing to sacrifice anything, or ally with anyone for his people. This, many believe, may one day be his downfall.
Personality Characteristics
Motivation
Khaguran is motivated by vengeance. He wishes to slay the Outsiders, as many do, but for personal vengeance. His birth family, who are kept at heel by false priests and forced to sacrifice themselves for a heartless being, are those he wishes to protect. To gain enough power to pierce its heart, Khaguran vows to return to his homeland a conqueror.
Vices & Personality flaws
He is painfully gullible.
Social
Family Ties
Khaguran was a bastard child. The Khan who took him abandoned him almost instantly to avoid conflict with his children later on. He was instead adopted by the camp followers, most of whom had lost loved ones. Without designated parents, he would call nearly all of his elders father and mother indiscriminately. To this day, he has a soft spot for society's underbelly.
Religious Views
Like many others, he is nominally religious. Yet he questions the nature, and sometimes purpose, of the gods. Why would a god require the works and deeds of mortals? What can a man offer the divine? Instead of seeking their favor, he wishes to live a life that the gods would take note of.
Social Aptitude
Although confident in his abilities, he realizes that others are often better than him. He wishes that no light be shed on his works and skills. He speaks, if possible, to groups of three or less. He is quick to remind others of past wrongdoings and supports anyone who seeks vengeance.
Hobbies & Pets
Khaguran is fascinated by the occult and secret magic. Even as a child, he was captivated by the magic harnessed by his people's enemies. As an adult, he has devoted himself to understanding the Curse, and the true nature of the Outsiders.
He is also an avid animal lover, often accused of caring for them more than himself. To celebrate his twentieth year, he bought two falcons from a foreign merchant to breed. Although it was an unreasonable price, and both turned out to be female, he still cares for both. Alongside his horse, he also owns a large war-hound.
Speech
Khaguran shares the accent of the southern plains, close to where a mountain connects one of the northern provinces of Trel and a small community. Despite his cosmopolitan upbringing, he uses most of the languages he knows for more colorful insults and curses. He speaks softly, trying not to strain his voice. He grits often, as his stomach has not healed in years.
