Feyrith Falynn

Feyrith Falynn, known also as Prince Feyrith and later King Feyrith, was the son of King Ivasaar and Queen Sadia. He was known for a great many things, not limited to being the last King of Kaylux and being the only King of Kaylux to have had humans as his Queens.

Feyrith's personal relationships were quite atypical for someone in his position. In 1514, he took the human leli known as Meg as his concubine, and in 1515 he took the other human leli, Abby, as his second concubine. He waited until he became King of Kaylux in 1517 and then promptly wed both of them and never took any further concubines. It is rare for a King to decide to wed one of his concubines, let alone both of them, and it is rarer still to take no additional partners outside of his wives. This is part of why the story of Feyrith, Meg and Abby had been mythologized as one of the great love stories of all time.

The exact nature of Feyrith's relationships with his wives is not fully know, however. It is clear from a number of contemporary accounts that Feyrith and Meg were deeply in love, and despite the fact that it would have been heavily frowned upon at the time for the partners of a royal to be involved with each other, it seems possible that Meg and Abby shared this sort of relationship as well. The main question, however, lies in if Abby and Feyrith were as romantically involved as their official relationship implied, or if they were dear friends who shared Meg in the same way Meg and Abby would have traditionally shared Feyrith, the roles that they were meant to take having shifted to something that they kept hidden.

In truth, we can never know for certain, but the fact that there is enough room for such theories had made the trio into something of a historical icon for non-traditional relationships in this part of Xogia.

When King Feyrith came into power, it was during a war between Kaylux and Vrekikar, which King Ivasaar had been a driving force of. With King Ivasaar now dead, King Feyrith quickly did what he could to put an end to the war, agreeing to give Whispering Valley over to Vrekikar. As the ownership of this valley was one of the more volatile pieces of this war, surrendering it played a large part in deescalating the war itself.

Under King Feyrith, relationship with Vrekikar remained strained, but did not escalate into violence once the war had passed. In fact, conflict between Kaylux and Vrekikar did not come to a head again until long after King Feyrith had retired and transferred the kingdom into a democracy with the aid of Queen Meg and Queen Abby.

Contemporary accounts tell us that Feyrith was well liked, far more popular a King than either his father or grandfather. That is not to say he didn't have enemies, of course. Lady Meira and her son, Lord Alre, are largely known today specifically because of their many attempts on the life of King Feyrith. If Feyrith had died, Alre would have been the logical next choice for an heir, as he was King Ivasaar's son, even if his mother was a concubine rather than a Queen. Ordinarily, this would have taken Alre out of the line of succession, but if the King had no legitimate heirs left, there would be little choice but to appoint the eldest of his other children.

King Feyrith himself did not go on to have any children. This is, naturally, because humans and maaron cannot crossbreed, as they are fundamentally different species. Of course, even if this weren't the case, Queen Meg and King Feyrith were both female. The fact that Feyrith chose two people who could not physically provide him with an heir for his wives was something that caused some controversy at the time, though the full extent of how their people felt about this arrangement is not known. We do have at least one account written at the time that argues for King Feyrith to take a third wife, someone who was both male and maaron, in order to provide an heir. This would have been breaking with the tradition that Kings have no more than two wives. Regardless, Feyrith never took a third wife, so we will never know what effects such an event would have had on the society of Kaylux.

When Feyrith retired in 1545, he left behind a new system of government for Kaylux. One that would not require or allow for Kings. He then went to live a quiet life with Meg and Abby, the trio staying together until their deaths. Today, they are buried together near where the capital of Kaylux once stood.

Of course, there are some stories from the time period following their retirement that suggest that the trio perhaps didn't live quite as quiet and uninvolved a life as has been popularly believed. These stories are all unconfirmed, but it is worth mentioning here, in case new evidence of Feyrith, Meg and Abby's involvement in major events is ever uncovered.
