The Banishment
Also known as The Banishing.
The Society-Sanctioned Sentence for "Traitors of An-Kerrar."
A sure, painful and lonesome death.
History
The Banishing was originally named "The Plummet," and was essentially a public execution, in which a "Traitor" was thrown off the Shivering Pass, into the staggering depths of the Dread Range below.
After some refinement, this method of execution is now more private, and more extended.
Execution
These days, "Traitors" simply disappear in the night, and are transported a day's travel away from the city, with nothing but a thin layer of clothing, and left to die.
The Society considers it impossible for one to survive the cold, the treacherous terrain, the starvation, the thirst and the wild animals for more than three days.
It is a clinical approach to execution, if nothing else, with little effort or resources required on The Society's part.
Components and tools
Transport - usually an ox- or yak-drawn cart or carriage of some kind.
A blindfold - so that "Traitors" cannot hope to follow the path back to An-Kerrar.
A Representative to drop the "Traitor" off.
Observance
Visits from Representatives are common in An-Kerrar. Visits from Representatives after curfew are the ones to fear most. They can occur at any time of the year. If The Society does not wish to interrogate you, then you have been chosen for The Banishing.
